My thoughts as well. I'd rather he find a way to release it himself, but if he goes the Criterion route it will undoubtedly be their release of the year.

I am kind of surprised there is a web page for this title on Blu-ray.com. There has been nothing but rumor that this is getting released. Is there someone from Criterion that knows?

Criterion has the rights to it, and they made a blatant hint to it in a New Years drawing. A drawing that has released nearly every other hint shown. I'd say that it's as close to a sure thing as you'll find.

Its even more than a blatant "rumor", Peter Becker stated during an interview that its not a rumor, they in fact have it and are releasing for 100% sure.
They're working on restoring David Lynch's short films first so they can establish a good working relationship with him before they move onto Eraserhead.
It'll come when its ready.

Meanwhile there's quite a nice region-free Australian Blu-ray release of ERASERHEAD from Umbrella that wasn't cheap but still within the Criterion price range. Modest extras: a trailer and a documentary. I doubt that picture quality could be all that much better but if Criterion comes up with a tempting set of supplementary features (an audio commentary would be great) I might consider double-dipping.
