Oh okay. So I should pull the trigger on the ultimate collectors edition if I want all the goodies and extra special features. Just hope it doesn't go up too high before I can buy it.

Citizen Kane: 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition [Blu-ray] is a deal of the day today on Amazon.ca for CDN$ 21.99. With shipping to the US, it worked out for me to $25.04.

Just a warning to those who are importing overseas. I just got my copy from Amazon.ca which was shipped using DHL. It arrived damaged and they said they can't offer any replacements due to it being sold out. Luckily I got a full refund.

Not surprised. I have ordered three items and out of the three two have been damaged. The postage is cheap so I suppose I get what I pay for.

I wonder if this will get a big 75th anniversary release? I don't know if they're still doing the Diamond Luxe editions but this seems a prime candidate. Would love just a regular blu-ray case with a new bonus disc though, the digibook/collector's set is the only way to get it so far.

I'm surprised there isn't any Fathom Events screening planned (so far) this year with it being the 75th anniversary and all. I wonder if Warner is planning a new edition too?

WB never misses an anniversary. Maybe they'll drop a UHD, too

I saw this for the first time at a screening of the new restoration during its 50th anniversary.

Where does the time go.

Being Warner Bros. You can bet they'll be an anniversary release sometime before year end. Warner only has 4 catalog titles that get re-released more often then any other:

The Wizard of Oz
Gone With the Wind
Casablanca
and Citizen Kane
(Did I miss any??)

WHV barely releases anything anymore, so their old patterns probably don't apply anymore. I'd like to see what they would offer in a new edition though.

I too am wondering if and when the 75th release will appear. I never got the previous UCE before it went OOP so I've been holding off in case it's another GWTW scenario where a new set is released with new extras etc.

Goodfellas.

I would say 2001, but that actually hasn't been re-released in awhile.

I've recently found myself eager to watch CITIZEN KANE, but would rather watch a Blu-ray version rather than the old DVD I own from 2001.

I've always liked the film, but don't watch it very often. So when I got the urge to see it again, I realized that I'd never upgraded it to Blu.

In looking at parts of this thread, I get the impression that the Blu-ray was never really "cheap" - you know, $5 in the Walmart or Best Buy bin - and that it's always commanded a somewhat more premium price.

Just above, there's a note about it being $25 or so from Amazon Canada. That's no longer true and all versions seem to be quite "out-of-print" priced. I suspect that the speculation above about another anniversary edition may be what's going on here, still I don't want to wait for announcements and reissues if there's nothing on the horizon.

I think I've done OK in my searches, finding a lightly used disc on eBay for around $35. It's the 70th Anniversary edition and should arrive today. That price seemed way better than the $50-$100 prices I see on the various online sites.

There's a German release that's about $13 shipped:

So why is that? Why is it so reasonable in Germany and so inflated in the US?

They're run by different departments. Germany didn't get it till last year, and the UK just got it in May. I assume Warner US are putting it in some sort of moratorium to increase demand, like Disney does with their vault, only to release it again. The time to do that would be this year, but there's nothing in sight.
