Not the first Demonic Toys no, Doll Man vs DM is kind of fun but ehhh.....and Transcers isn't really very good and it's not exactly cheesy either so it's not fun.

Okay, so I'm a little confused here. I was going to purchase the first 3 Puppet Master Films from the UK because they're listed as region-free on the site, but are they actually region-free? It says B/2 on Amazon.co.uk. It's obviously far cheaper just to buy the Trilogy set within the States, but I'm a stickler for quality control. And it sounds like that's a big issue with these.

Any advice or experiences? I don't have a Region-free player, just the latest Sony 3D Blu-ray Player, and am not particularly interested in trying to venture down that road...

They are region free. From my Superior International thread:

Puppet Master
US - AVC 1.78:1, DD 5.1, no commentaries, no English subs (Region A/B)
UK - AVC 1.85:1, LPCM 2.0 / DTS-HD MA 5.1, two commentaries (Region free) Best PQ

Puppet Master II
US - AVC 1.78:1 DD 5.1, no English subs (Region A/B)
UK - AVC 1.78:1 DTS-HD MA 2.0 (Region Free)

Puppet Master III
US - AVC 1.78:1 DD 5.1, no English subs (Region A/B)
UK - AVC 1.78:1 DTS-HD MA 5.1 (Region Free)

Thanks. I'm kinda hoping someone with personal experience will chime in too. I know what it says, but go figure I'd pay all that extra money and be the first S.O.L. person.

The UK listing for the first film does actually say region-free, however parts 2 & 3 say B/2.

I can tell you for certain that parts II and III are at least region A/B compatible.

All three are region free. In fact, every release from 88 films is region free. I own Puppet Master 1 - 3, Subspecies trilogy, and Castle Freak, and all play perfectly fine on my U.S. PS3.

Thanks. I took the plunge. If anyone's inclined to keep their fingers crossed for me, I'd appreciate it, lol. This is my first time ordering from Amazon.co.uk, so we'll see. I'm hoping it all goes okay.

Depending on where you live, shipping can be kind of slow. It took almost 2 weeks before my copy of Demonic Toys and Pit and the Pendulum came in. They were scheduled to arrive this past Monday, but came in yesterday. On the other hand, when I bought Castle Freak it took less than a week to arrive.

I'll be the ultimate test then - for better or worse. I'm in WA state, so I'm not even sure which direction they'd choose to ship in, lol.

Oooo..... So 4 and 5 come out sometime next year then? Awesome! After that, I'll hold out hope for a couple other Full Moon titles (Dark Angel, Crash & Burn, etc...) before I call it quits. Remembering 6 and the rest past that gives me chills, not the good ones....

Lack of English subtitles is the reason why despite these being release on Blu, I have to resort to purchase the VHS editions. Which honestly, I don't mind. Instant Nostalgia

Are the Puppet Master Blu-rays in 16x9 or 1.85:1 aspect ratio? I know they're listed as 16X9 widescreen, but I was wondering if the aspect ratio really is in 16:9 or 1.85:1, which is the correct aspect ratio. Thanks.

16x9 means the film is anamorphically enhanced for your TV (should you choose to view it that way via the player setup). I can't explain why they have 16x9 on a Blu-ray cover considering all Blu-rays are anamorphically enhanced to begin with.

To answer your question, the aspect ratio for the first 5 films is 1.85:1 widescreen.

I think that bobbyh64 is getting at the most pointless hill to die on in home video, matted 1.85:1 vs unmatted 1.78:1.

From screenshots on this site it looks like:
PM1: 1.78:1
PM 2: 1.78:1
etc.

Just look at screenshots and see if there are teeny tiny bars on the top and the bottom.

Why is it pointless? I was just curious which aspect ratio it was displayed as. Sometimes movies are listed as 1.85:1 when they're really 1.78:1 (16x9). Since they're very similar aspect ratios, some studios feel it's okay to list them as 1.85:1 which I don't agree with. It reminds me of the old days when VHS tapes would say "This film has been modified to fit your TV", but at least they told you that up front.

16x9 can also just mean what the aspect ratio is. You could have a Blu-ray with a movie shown in 4:3, 16:9, 1.85:1 etc.

And as for being anamorphically enhanced, I don't think Blu-rays are ever anamorphic. That's a term used for DVDs which means the entire 720x480 pixels are used for the image so that a widescreen movie will be higher quality and won't have black bars on all four sides on a 16x9 TV. There isn't a practical need for Blu-rays to be anamorphic.

I usually worry about buying box sets for film series that are still financially viable. Mostly because I don't want to buy a "complete" box set, then another film in the series is released, they release another box set including that flick, and so on.

However, Puppet Master is so awful past installment 6 that I feel pretty good about just buying the set up to that point.
