They also talked about how the OAR is 2.39:1 and how the "FAUX-MAX" presentation is open matte, not a true AR. No. You can't "safe frame" for the narrowest AR. Safe framing is what's left around the outside, not the inside. |

Forget the terminology, you know what he means. The taller AR is what's framed for and the 2.35 is extracted from that in the case of TDK, Ghost Protocol et al which is why the alternating aspect presentations have some artistic merit to them, unlike Skyfall IMAX which is simply an open matte version that dilutes the original composition for the sake of using up a bit more acreage on a giant screen.

You're the one spamming the board with that mock-up Skyfall cover.

I finally watched the film on Blu-ray (awesome film btw, on of the best Bond films ever, if not the best). The composition was perfect. Literally there were only 2-3 scenes I said "that would look better in IMAX". I would be interested in seeing the IMAX version (hopefully we'll see full-frame IMAX somewhere down the future in home media) but I have no regrets staying with the 2,40:1 version.
