The story is beside the point, like the best looney tunes.

I thought the movie was a non-stop, hilarious reel of jokes and 3D gags, worthy of all the praise it's getting here and more. I might be in the minority, but I enjoyed it much more than any of the critically acclaimed emotional dramas/adventures from Pixar. I think laughter endears me to animated characters in family-aimed movies more than anything else.

100% well said. Offlate i cant stand pixar as they seem to have lost their original story telling (what the hell was Brave about? and Cars2?) and have not embraced 3D and Dreamworks seems to be going the other direction!

Brave was about a girl (and that was "selling point" too - not too many female hero's around) who battled to make her own choices and be herself!

And Cars 2...erm that was a car crash of animated cars rushing head-on to do a James Bond movie...and the moral - be yourself, and dont try to be anyone else (is Pixar stuck with this "be yourself" moral at the moment)

Pixar have always said that their movies are more about the story than "wowing" with pop-out - their depth is a move to try and draw you "into the world" not poke it in your face.....unfortunately most want the "in your face stuff when it comes to 3D!

I understand the broad themes but they dont feel original Pixarish anymore.

Also Dreamworks 3D for most part is about incredible depth and camera pans that takes you on a joy ride. Occasionally comes along movies like Madagascar 3 which have no plot but satisfy the pop-out urge someone may crave in 3D.

I was able to watch this last night, no wait... Let me rephrase that, I was able to be a part of this movie last night and truly enjoyed it. Why do I say I was a part of it? Because the 3D on this movie is some of the very best 3D I have ever seen! I was sucked into this movie and felt I was truly there.
Though the movie is a bit cheesy with some weird scenes probably because it's aimed for younger kids, this is a 3D movie you DO NOT wanna miss.

Let me just say, that from beginning to end the 3D is nothing more than amazing. Do you like depth in your 3D movies? This movie has it, and I must say it's damn good. Do you like popout as well? Then you are in for a treat because it also has much of it also! Things will be popping out of your 3D TV so much you will feel as though you can reach out and touch them. I found myself actually pausing the movie to have a better look, and walking closer to grab things. Ashame you can't feel in 3D!

If you like 3D and want a movie to show off, Madagascar 3 Europe's Most Wanted is the movie for you! You will not regret getting this one.

3D Depth: 10 outa 10

3D Popout: 10 outa 10
Did you watch the movie on your LG cinema 3d tv? does it pop as much as your active tv?

Just watched this movie after the good reviews on here....and I cant agree more with what you have said.....the plot was there but all over the place (and I guess predictable) The 3d is great with depth and pop-outs to rival the best (Sammy is still tops though) I might need to watch it again to take in all the depth thats on offer! Everyone agrees that Pixar need to step up in the 3d realms if they want to be taken seriously now (stories as you have said are beginning to lack - so they need to give us the "Pop-out joy-ride" we all want!

Madagascar 3 - hmmm I just didnt connect with it - the characters seemed flat and in some ways un-emotional (yoicks just had a bit of an earthquake here ....2 years on and still shakin) the voices didnt even seem as lively as usual......kinda hoping in a way that it is the last time we will see the madagascar cast.....

Default I am digging it

I am with Big3dfan. I saw Madagascar 3 last night after I left my office at DISH and even thought the plot was a little slow, the 3D was spectacular. My son said it was like we had the whole gang right in our living room. I am really happy I finally got a DISH Hopper. It lets us order 3D movies right to our living room for less than the price of a movie ticket and we don’t even have to deal with crowds.

Although Pixar's 3D isn't worried about pop outs, which is fine, they could use more dimension by separating the cameras farther apart (virtual camera 3D Rig) to really create a stronger sense of 3D.

Madagascar 4 is being planned last I read. I haven't been into the Madagascar movies myself until I saw the 3D preview for part III, which had some nice city settings and the circus theme, which drew me in to see it. Or maybe it was just the awesome 3D. In the end though, it was a generally fun movie with great 3D.

Also check out Dreamwork's Rise of the Guardians. Equally awesome 3D. And their upcoming The Croods, which from the preview, also nails the 3D.

But yes, Madagascar 3 3D is one of the best examples of how 3D should look for computer animation.

When it comes to 3D, ALL dreamworks titles are a blind buy for me. I have not been disappointed so far with them as much as I am with Pixar even in story space offlate.

I hate to bump this up, but has it ever been on sale for under $20? I've been dying to get it but have never had luck on finding a deal on it.

So far, $20 is as good as it gets for DreamWorks. The only hope for something lower is $20 at Best Buy during an upgrade and save promotion.

Check Target ad, I think they are having a sale on it at 19.99 plus there is a 25% coupon you can apply as well. It's their Easter sale or something. If I find it, I'll post a link to it!

I believe Target's Easter sale starts next week, and their 25% off coupon is only good this week for a Disney title.

I bought Madagascar 3 for $20 shortly after it was released.

Same here, $20 is a really nice price for strong 3D movies like Mad3 3D. It was right around Christmas when I saw this for $20. Then it went back up.

I watched this last night, skipping to various scenes just to appreciate the 3D again. Awesome. And I really enjoyed watching the villain Hunter lady. She was a big highlight IMO.

I forgot the 3D trailer of Rise of the Guardians is on this disc also.
