This whole scratching debacle is interesting indeed. I'm really tempted to buy a cheap used copy from Amazon just to see what is going on. For $17+Shipping what can go wrong? :')

I tried two different sets and all my 4K discs were scratched so... yeah. Buyer beware.

I bought mine for only approx US$22 new from Amazon.ca only one disc is lightly scratched. For that price and 6 discs, I can't complain...although I do end up changing the case to regular 6-disc bluray case.

Happy to report The Mummy UHD played fine and wow was the picture nice. I never bought the blurays had the first 2 DVD's awhile ago so definitely was the best presentation I've seen. DTS:X sound had plenty of punch, overhead sounds were more subtle but a few scenes had some good front to back panning.

Looking forward to The Mummy Returns next in UHD!

Got to Mummy Returns last night. It was the only disc out of 6 that had a little scratch on it. It played flawlessly, so that was nice. Again, like The Mummy...WOW.. what a huge difference from the blu. The HDR in this seemed a little overdone at times, especially with the explosions and sparks, but the daytime scenes and depth and shadow detail are easily unmatched in comparison to the blu. Nice grain field intact also. I am on to the 3rd, although the worst in the series. I am pretty sure it will look great too.

The HDR is really aggressive on all three. Brings up revisionist complaints in the back of my mind but when they're so f'ing pretty it's hard to get upset about it.

HDR highlights are most apparent with Dragon Emperor I think, I almost wanted to grab my sunglasses during one or two scenes.

I finally opened mine after confirming Universal would replace the discs, although I am skeptical that the packaging is the problem here. Well, the packaging IS a problem given how hard it is to get the discs out and it requires grabbing the discs and yanking them out to get them out, but I still think that the damage done to these discs happened via however the discs were treated at the "factory" before they ended up in these sleeves. I mean, those huge oily fingerprints on the bottom of one of the Blu-Rays didn't get there via this packaging. That was one of the worst looking "new" discs I've ever seen. If I attempted to trade these in to any retailer that takes used Blu-Ray discs, they'd get rejected. I only had one that I couldn't find a scratch on (the first Mummy 4K disc).

All of the Blu-Ray discs looked way worse than the 4K discs, too.

We'll see what I get in the mail from Universal... I'm a bit scared they'll just be breaking open other sets and sending the discs out. Hopefully, someone looks at them first. I went through something similar when I bought that huge "Charmed" complete series set. That set even had disc hubs, but almost all of the discs were scratched. Paramount sent me over 20 replacement discs and almost all of them were scratched, too.

I probably should've just held off to see what the UK sets will look like...

Universal has offered up replacement packaging before after an initial release had a horrible design (the original release of the complete latest Battlestar Galactica series). I would guess this packaging cost more to manufacture than sticking these discs in a Viva Elite case. It does look nice. Too bad it's not very usable.
