Watched it last night, a little too long. But the 3D looked good and it sounded great.

Do you have a website you review for or somewhere we can read your reviews?

Thanks!
Thank God- I thought I was nuts at how underwhelmed I was with the audio for this. And right after installing a new receiver it had me paranoid my settings were off

But not enough bass, lacking surround effects, dialog low, and for some reason (not sure if this is normal) when they hit parts with just the score playing, it played through all speakers and not just the fronts
My Denon goes 0-100 and I had it at 65 to make the center channel audible, which of course resulted in suprising peaks in volume for action sequences.
(which again had more music and not effects coming from them)

COntrast to Prometheus, which had a dynamic bass track and even Ep IV when Star Detroyers and Tie Fighters and the Falcon were zipping around

Yeah, not much below about 50hz or so on this one which is why it was underwhelming in the LFE department. Pretty much hits a brick wall around 40hz! This would be awesome bass if we were back in the 70s and 80s.

I thought the track was great though besides the LFE and did not have the issues you mention. I assume you have calibrated the audio since getting your new receiver?

Default 48p movie on blu-ray

I'm sorry if this was answered somewhere else and i'm too lazy to go through 2000 posts. Question is how 48p movie is transferred onto the blu-ray disc and how do tvs cope with that.

Not possible for 48 fps with current specs.

In the future you can use the search function up near the top of the page. Just type 48 and you would have gotten your answer many times over.
Toshiba 40-inch 1080p TV; Sony BDP-S590, Panasonic DMP-BDT220 (back-up); Samsung HT-D330 (5.1 surround, DVD HT w/ region-free capability); Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 250gb w/ Kinect

Finally saw this movie, the movie was boring as boring can be.

But wow, this is a very nice looking disc and the sound is great too!

I'm surprised that Jackson is putting his team at Weta through the 48 fps bull. He has to realize that he's asking for double the rendering time to be done in the same time frame. Weta literally doesn't have the time to completely fine tune every effects shot. Sometimes, it shows.

And that would explain why the orcs look so much more cgi rendered this time around.

I'm sorry if this has been talked to death as I have not ventured into this thread, but everyone who wanted to watch it finally dragged their asses over. A brief search showed that I'm certainly not the only one who was greatly disappointed in the bass in the movie, especially the scene with the giants. Has there been any explanation for this?

Default Wow.

Sorry, this is less to do with the Blu release and more about the film, but i just watched this for the first time and i thought it was amazing. A brilliant film all throughout and a perfect companion piece to LOTR. I hope the next two films stack up.

About the Blu Ray, the 3D 5 Disc one in particular, i don't know how but those discs are coated with what i can only describe as "Magic Smooth". I love them.

This might be a bit too much but the first thing i wanted to do when i opened the case was rub them on my face!

Brilliant. I can't wait until i get a 3D TV...

I think you're referring to the anti-scratch coating.

Excellent film and a great adaptation.

It would be interesting to see what scenes are going to be added to the extended edition that's coming out soon. This isn't exactly a LOTR scenario where significant portions of the story were cut out of the theatrical cuts and later reinserted into the extended editions.

What more could the filmmakers add, everything from those sections of the book are more or less in the theatrical cut?
