One thing is evident at this stage- some fans of the way Darbyism alters (enhances?) a video image have achieved a defensive fervor reminiscent of cult status. If someone, instead, favors what promises to deliver an unaltered, authentic, and accurate reproduction of a video program, you are a "purist." In the hobbyist communities, the term "purist" can be thrown about like a pejorative. The pursuit of program fidelity is often deemed extremism, while the acceptance of distortion and compromise, the more reasonable and/or popular position. Agreement isn't necessary in this debate, but clarity is a virtue.

This still goes back to the perpetual issue of preference versus reference. If the viewer's basic philosophy of video excellence is- if it feels good, do it (if I like it, it's correct)- then preference rules. If the viewer wants an authentic reproduction of a video program- then reference rules. Both approaches are legitimate guides to what type of video reproduction devices to spend one's money on. Each approach will determine how a shopper chooses what provides value to him. Peaceful coexistence should be possible in a reasoned debate.

What the hell are you babbling about? I respect your opinion more than tele, considering your position but when other experts praise what the Darbee does on large displays I tend to believe them too. I'm not your average enthusiast. I was in the installation business for a few years so I too know a thing or two between Reference and Preference.

But Tele was posting they did not like the product and was infering that it was an inferior product. This got under my skin because he did the same thing over on AVS and has been banned from that site. I have heard a bunch of posters being suspended on forums but you really need to go over the edge to be banned from a site.
I think you need to read Pentatonics post again, as that is excatly what they were saying and i don't understand your reference to calibrating with the Darblet.

I was banned for my views on the Darblet, AVS had a vested interest as they sell them.

As Pentatonic & Alan Brown said, if you like it use it.

PS
This was not my opinion.

Maybe you should reread what he posted.

that the idea of calibration was to get your set to specs, and a certain popular video gizmo, (or something of that nature) wasn't the way of doing so
How else am I to comprehend what is written in the above quote? You know what guys... I'm done with this petty back and forth. I have seen the merits of the Darbee on displays as small as 55" all the way up to a 160" display with a JVC projector with e-shift and the product delivers what it is advertised to do. Nothing more nothing less. If Gary Reber of Wide Screen review uses it in his reference theater it's good enough for me. I have follow GR since the inception of Laserdiscs so I have been around the block a few times.

Guys, I have no opinion on the matter, I couldn't care less if you use and like or not. As for the term 'purist' it was used not in a pejorative way at all but mostly to enhance the term, as obviously calibrators are purists.

Only reason I posted was the fact that I did hear that comment and wanted to shed some light on the matter.

Ahhh,

So called experts have caused all this aye. I threw out expert reviews years ago. Most of these so called experts can't even see crosstalk on 3D at the moment.

I like the Darbee and to me that all that counts. I don't want to replicate a studio in my HT. I want to customize it to my taste. I know it is not correct but bloody hell I like it when I sit down and watch a movie.

I have customized my sound differently and have no problem customizing the picture with the Darbee either.

I don't care if experts don't like it.
