I've been interested in a Fire HD since they came out in the US a few years back, do they play digital copies? And can you browse the web with them? I know they're compatible with LoveFilm can you join Amazon Prime in the US and use their service or are they region specific? Sorry about all the questions iPads are too expensive for my needs as I really only want something to play videos, read and browse the web.

You can watch Ultraviolet copies on the Kindle Fire HD using Flixter app.

There would be a difference if you use your PC with your TV but depending on your distance from the screen you might not notice a huge difference and as you've said you're very happy with the quality. So if you watch TV in-bed then you're about ten feet away. You'd probably benefit more from 1080p if you sit at the bottom of your bed.

For 1080P noticeable difference on a 40 - 42" screen you need to be around 5 feet to 6 feet away.
Thanks for explaining. When I click info on my remote it says the picture is 1920x1080/24p. I toggled with picture settings when I got it so I don't know if maybe I got it to display Blu-rays at 1080p? I dunno all these HD TVs and whatnot is very confusing haha.

Here's a picture I took during Beauty and the Beast, the picture looks phenomenal, the best I've ever seen it, I don't see how it could be 720p. It could just be the best I've seen it because the TV is bigger but the image is sharp and colourful.

The TV itself will tell you the resolution of what you're inputting. So as your BD player is set to 1080/24p that's what the information box will display. If you change your settings on your BD player it will change the information displayed in the info box. If plugged a DVD player in I'd imagine it would say 720 x 576 50hz in the box but if you played an upscaled DVD on your BD player it would read 1920 x 1080 50hz.

It looks great though and you sound like a happy-camper which is the main thing!

That does make sense, though I know it's not exactly 1080p now I feel gutted haha. The picture quality is still amazing but I'm one of those OCD people who just wants things to be perfect. Never mind, I'm sure in a couple of years I'll get an even bigger TV somehow that will be Full HD haha.

I have to say I didn't realise that,I thought it would only show what the TV was capable of no matter what your player was set to.
Film= Priority,Packaging= Not really bothered.

No you're quite right. Most TV's have a fixed resolution (unlike PC monitors (I'm not sure if HDTV's can display different resolutions when used as a monitor - I think they just support different resolutions), but a lot of TV's can handle a higher resolution input than that can be outputted. Whether there's any benefit I have no idea!

Some TV's can't handle a higher resolution than the native display, my sisters TV flickers with 1080i from her Freesat box and 1080p is 'out of range' - which is quite annoying if I bring the PS3 upstairs without changing the display beforehand (I have to take it back downstairs and change the display to 720p!).

Nope TVs cannot display any resolution apart from 576p, 720p, 1080p and its interlaced counterparts. You can set PC resolution to different settngs and it will make the screen change size but the TV outputs only at the normal tv resolution.

Hi Chip,
It doesn't matter if you're using a slim PS3 or the Fat one, either way you can hold the power button when in standby mode until you hear a beep & the PS3 will reset it's display settings. I think it's 2 beeps for the older fat one, I can't remember as it's been that long. Just thought I would mention it, to stop you from taking it back downstairs to change the display!

That's brilliant news mate, I even tried the composite leads but they wouldn't display either. That will solve my problem perfectly!
