Finally popped in a couple of discs yesterday. They were U.S. discs though. I like how responsive the player is. Disc content loads quickly, the player responds well to when you push buttons on the remote.

I don't have an imported disc to try yet though. Hopefully they will be here from Zavvi within a week.

Glad I found this thread. Hope the player lasts a couple/few years!

^ I'm also pretty happy with it. Sure the sharpness a just a touch hot and it's a bit on the noisy side audibly, but I'm very sensitive to those sorts of things. It's hard to complain at it's current price point. For perfect PQ I use my HTPC for region free playback. With the saved money (buying the Seiki) I can now upgrade my HTPC and not feel guilty about wasting money.

The Seiki is for the bedroom and I'll most likely get a second player for the living room later on.

I seems to have found the SR4KP1 model on sale at Kmart. There was talk of the region free thing getting patched earlier on in the thread? Is that a concern or should I pick this up?

They can only patch your player if you let them. You don't have to apply a new firmware if they do patch things down the road. If Seiki did, it would severely hurt their sales. I don't see that happening any time soon.

I think so...

But only you can judge that based on what it does (and doesn't) offer per dollar spent. If you're asking about firmware changes, nothing has changed.

Does anyone here who owns the SR4KP1 also own a BD-660 or SR212? I have one of each but the BD660 was purchased second hand and did not come with a remote. The SR 212 remote does not work for it, so I can not enter the codes to change the region. I'm curious if the 4k Remote uses the same coding to control the BD660 or the 212. I'm thinking of picking up a 4KP1 eventually, and it would save me having to buy a remote off ebay (which I can't confirm which version it is) or a Harmony remote (which I don't need since my Marantz remote is all I'll ever need until it goes wrong).

I've got both the 4k model and the older one and the 4k remote doesn't work on the older model

For my fellow Canadians - the SR4KP1 is now available at Canadian Tire stores. I picked one up over the weekend. It seems to be a much better unit than my SR212S, which will now be my region-free backup. I ordered a bunch of new Region B titles from Amazon UK to celebrate.
