Just normal tv stands that you place the tv on top of are getting terribly short......Some are only 13 inches high at ikea.
And I've noticed the average height of stands nowadays are around 20 inches high and that's not tall enough for anyone's eyes to be center unless your sitting on the floor with a beanbag or a floor rocker chair. For me a tv stand that's around 30-40 inches high is perfect. 13 inches high must be for people who lay on their belly. 20 inches high must be for people that like sitting on the floor or they must like sore necks from looking down. 30+ inches high is for people with normal furniture. The new popular standard should be at least 30 inches high. |

Wall mounting televisions & increasing TV sizes are the biggest culprits. Bigger screens need to be mounted lower on the wall, so they can be mounted at the right height. Plus the center channel can be placed on top of the TV stand. The top of my living room TV stand is 23" high, center channel on top of TV stand. My TV is wall mounted with the center at 50" high. My eyes are 45" high when seated.

I would also add that TVs now tend to have pedestals(or what ever they are called)when sitting on a piece of furniture, so the bottom of the screen is no longer at the top of the piece of furniture but several inches above that.
