Actually it was 3D theatrically in atleast some theatres, we showed for a month at the Chinese(not to mention the L.A.premiere), it bombed but we showed it in 3D and DBOX(in the chinese 6)
We couldn't play cheaper programing if we tried, and believe me WE TRIED.

Don't get me wrong I will buy all these conversion re releases, but its just agravating that they are just sitting on 3D titles that played theatricaly in 3D.
I didn't know it was 3D either. Thanks for the info. I was going to see this, but then held off. If it was in 3D, I would have seen it. Might consider it if it's strong 3D on disc if released.

OFF TOPIC:
Terminator 1, 2 and 3 I'd like to see in 3D. T2 rumored. Man, if the 3D is as strong as Titanic, a day one buy. That's the kind of 3D Lions Gate needs to aim for if they hope these 3D releases are successful. Or on par with MIB 3's 3D.

Just re-watched T3 again, that movie has some great action scenes with the big hook winch truck driven by Loken smashing everything in sight on the roads, Schwarzenegger
[Show spoiler]after her in his own fire truck. The bathroom fight, the funeral battle, etc.

I couldn't help but chuckle at the site of the titles listed. I don't mind movies getting re-released for home viewing with those who have an appetite for 3D. But to launch these again in the theatre - nobody is going to pay for that. Even if they were doing double features for the price of one.

3D re-releases in the theatres should be reserved for EPIC titles.

Apocolypse Now, Terminator 2, Kick-Ass and Rambo would be prime choices from Lionsgate. Not this joke collection... Except Crank (I'll let that one slide).

I want Crank 3 in 3D!!!

In all honesty what is the likelehood that these conversions will be any good? $18 Million was spent to make the Titanic conversion as amazing as it is, there is no way on earth that Lionsgate are going to be stumping up the necessary funds to give us a great conversion, considering they are a smaller studio than Fox, and we all know how the I, Robot conversion turned out!

I really, really hope i am proven wrong on this and that the conversions kick ass
3D ALL THE WAY!!!

I doubt they're going to re-release older films in 3D for theaters, or are they? I agree, that wouldn't be a smart idea unless it's a mega blockbuster.
I think they were referring to the new films they're working on, converting them into 3D before they hit theaters, then blu 3D. Excluding the 3D conversions of older films to blu 3D.

I think you may be right, but agree that we can hope it'll turn out better than I Robot's weaker 3D (which wasn't a total 3D loss thanks to some good 3D shots)

[Show spoiler]"I think the true and correct use of the conversion technology is for movies that are already done and are already beloved films. I want to do it with Titanic, maybe I'll go back to Terminator 2: Judgment Day. It has to be done right, and it has to be done with the blessing and the supervision of the filmmaker."

Off topic, reason for the spoiler tag.

I would love to be proven wrong on this Lionsgate thing, but i am not holding out much hope. It's a great idea (converting catalogue titles) i'm just not convinced that the necessary resources (which would be expensive) will be put in to doing it.

I agree I, Robot 3D wasn't a total loss, the action had some effective 3D. I need to give it a rewatch to be honest.

Fingers crossed they do a good job. The Fox I.Robot conversion showed promise but was not that good. If Lionsgate takes similar technology a step or two further this may end up working well.

Oh, and...

So I got bored with a project I've been working on and broke away for a bit to have some fun. Get out the ol' red and blues..

I put this together today - what I thought the lenticular cover might look like (if they have one)...

Obviously a "3D" would be added somewhere, but you get the drift... Hoping this technology works out... Crank 3D!!!

I drew a depthmap using GIMP, in total something around 10 layers, then rendered the second perspective with BR3.2.

Boredom can be fun!

Those are so COOL! Don't think I've ever seen such great depth with red & blue glasses on the second one! Great work!

That looks excellent!!! How complicated is it to learn depthmaps and making 3d images like that, cause I really want to get into doing it. What programs and tutorials should I get? lol

How I created those 3d images.

Also to add to the topic, I have not received anything back from Lionsgate on the conversions or example trailers of the quality Booooo...

Not surprised though..
