Reading comprehension isn't exactly your strong suit huh? I've clearly written in past posts that I've appreciated certain member's input on the matter, and I've posted that I'll accept the fact that the color timing of Warner's release is fine if that's how it truly was from the beginning. I've went on record saying I don't know what the film looked like originally, and merely voiced my preferences about the color timing, and stretching, and I have always been open to input from other. At the same time, I also don't subscribe to the condescension of certain members here, who with their better than thou tone actually lose my respect for them, and their opinion, which I imagine is the opposite effect of what their trying to uphold I'm sure.

The recent screencaps Dickieduvet posted shows that the Aventi release is far from perfect. Compared to the Warner screencaps the Aventi frames have EE due to sharpening, compression artifacts and in some cases fine detail is completely washed out in some parts of some of those frames.

Who the hell said that it was anything near perfect? Both releases are terrible, but this is why I prefer the French version:http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergl...ss=1#vergleich

I didn't mean to ruffle up your feathers. Sorry if it came across that way. I just appreciate the well thought out responses some people have offered in this thread, and I feel the constant replies about screenshots have become a nuisance.

Do I know better than screen caps having actually watched the disc in question? Is that really what you're saying? Why, I'd have to say that the answer would be a resounding yes.

Just watched the Warners BD. I gots no problem with the colour as the skin tones look fine and I love the richness of the reds, nor is there any issue with the level of detail, this being a 40yo anamorphic show stuffed to the gills with opticals. BUT it really does look overexposed in a lot of exterior shots. This is not me comparing it to anything else, it's simply what I'm seeing.
RAH touched upon it in his HTF review, noting that the colour of the opening credits is slightly blown out, but for my money this effect continues throughout the film. It may be exactly what the filmmakers intended - I can't say either way because I don't have a print to check, nor was I alive when the film debuted - but that doesn't stop it from looking kinda hinky. |

Finally got around to seeing this last night for the first time and really liked it. It held up very well for being a 40-year old sci-fi / fantasy film. Watched this on Amazon Prime streaming and it looked good. Not sure if its from the same source as the bluray, will pickup the bluray at some point.
I do have to mention that James Brolin looked alot like Christian Bale in this film. I had to even look it up on IMDB to see if they were related somehow.
Lloyd C. Cramden: Flint, How do you find time to read all these books?
Derek Flint: No, no, no, sir, I wrote those. In Like Flint (1967) |
