I only like the uneven numbers in this series. 1, 3, 5.

New Nightmare was a huge disappointment. Dunno why people are so positive about it. Heather is a bad actress, her kid annoying as hell and Freddy's new make up atrocious. They could've done a lot more with the story in a story element too.

Didn't he set up a Kickstarter campaign late last year? No idea if enough cash was raised to pursue the project, though.

Freddy's 'comedic personality' didn't come into play until Dream Warriors. In fact the most iconic line from that film "Welcome to Prime time *****" was an improvised line by Robert England. Plus you figure by Elm Street 3 fans just wanted to see more of Krueger and how creative he could get with his kills in the dream world.

The Dream Master Freddy was more or less a full blown comedian. Just about every other scene he was in there was some sort of pun delivery.

"How sweet fresh meat", "Ah Rick you're such a little meatball" etc....

The Dream Child attempted to break that comedic sense to bring Freddy back to his darker scarier roots but fell short of expectations. Although to it's credit some of the kills where standouts, like the comic book scenes.

Freddy's Dead was pure and simple camp, and lousy at that.

New Nightmare obviously ignores every sequel and stands on it's own creative merit and is delightfully scary at moments. Much better send off for England before his final turn in Freddy vs Jason.

I thought Freddys dead at least tried to address Kruegers backstory in a decent way which I quite liked and l liked Englund playing himself in the last one, but neither movie are very good

3 which people on here seem to like is just hideous

Freddy has ALWAYS delivered comical lines. The difference in lines like "I'm gonna split you in two!" (part 1) and "It's a boooooooy!!!" (part 5) is Robert's line delivery.

Freddy was designed to have a sinister sense of humor from the beginning. The only difference is the directors and Robert got a little loose with the line delivery and it took on a more cartoonish tone rather than sinister.

It's just a super cool concept and the last act is great, which makes people forgive its flaws. The first half is SO padded, and yes Heather is not great in it, but by the time the credits roll I think a lot of people forgive that.

3 is too too goofy but 2 isn't? 2 is one of the goofiest films I've ever seen and gets more laughs out of me than most flat-out comedies.

I mean:

Jesse's constant high pitched screams
Exploding parakeets
A man getting killed via towel strikes to the ass
The family's random penis ornaments stuck to the wall
Two guys getting into a serious fight and instead of pummeling each other, start trying to rip the other's underwear off in the middle of a field
And this...

Dance Scene From A Nightmare On Elm Street 2
It's not goofy per say, but they got a gay allegory into a massive mainstream horror film and that is a good way to downplay that and make the horror more extreme.
It's hardly new that this was noticed but it makes it my second favourite

He talked more, but he was more angry, sinister and serious in part 2 than he was in the orignal which added another layer to Freddy.

2 might have some homosexual subtext and be a little extreme at times, but at its core it is a well made horror film with some interesting themes and a villain that is actually menacing, unlike part 3 which was trying to be hip and cool, as well as begin the series of infamous corny one-liners and puns.

It's good, but I'd have to go with the original on that.

...I always wondered what happened to that poor goat.
I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked.
Dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix.
Angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night.

The concept for New Nightmare was pretty great.

...the execution was not.
