I already have the 203 and I am quite happy with it, just interested to know what the 205 offers above and beyond the 203. I cannot seem to find that comparison on the Oppo web site. Did I miss it?
Not a comparison matrix, but a link to each of the units are here:

I am trading in my upgraded (Upgrade Company) OPPO BDP 105 for the new OPPO UDP 205 and having it upgraded.

Thanks. Already had those links, but comparing them is tedious.

I'd probably say it will be the very same reasons that people chose to go with the 103 over the 105. oppo targets a very select crowd with the 105 & now the 205.

personally, I don't thing oppo has to justify the price difference. the value of the items speaks volumes to it's target audience and sometimes pulls others in as well. Marantz has an SACD/CD player that cost $6,999.00 you don't see them having to justify the cost of that to consumers as they too have a very specific target audience for this product.

if one is happy with their 103 and want to move up for UHD capability, then I say go ahead and go to the 203. to those who have the 105 and take advantage of the things that make that 105 unique in relation to the 103, then the 205 is where you will go for your upgrade.

I think it's pretty simple in that respect. they have two models, one is their "everybody" model and one is their "top of the line all the bells and whistles" model. choose yours based on use and budget. the only justification has to be between you, your money, your ears and in many cases (not mine) your spouses.

oh and don't forget, you can always choose NOT to buy the 205, now, there's a novel idea.

there's something for everybody, either from oppo or some other manufacturer.

And if you want a UHD 4K Blu-ray player that outperforms the stock Marantz $6,999.00 SACD/CD player, consider getting the new Oppo UHD 205 and have Dave Schulte of the Upgrade Company do a Signature Upgrade on the machine for I believe $999 and you can improve the performance even more for a bit more money.
