He has roughly the same TV as mine, the Samsung KU6300. It's really not showing the UHD's properly but if he likes what he sees that's all that matters in the end.

I wonder if this player, being UHD, includes a processor which is not up to par when it comes to 3D. I have a Sony BD6500 as well, and I use both players for 2D and 3D blurays. Sometimes I feel that the same 3D movie looks better on the Sony player than on this player...But of course I can only play UHDs on the Samsung

It's odd, because I had the exact opposite experience. I completely abandoned my Sony 3D player (can't recall the model # now) because I thought the Sammy's 3D appeared to be better. Getting the Samsung player got me back to being re-interested in 3d because it seemed to be a better experience than my previous player.

How old was you Sony player? Mine is a 2015 BD6500. The yare both connected to Denon receiver and 4K Oled TV. Maybe the Sony is better at upscaling 1080?

To me 3D BDs looked basically the same from my Samsung K8500 as from my Sony X800 as from Sony S6500 as from my Sony S6200 as from my Popcornhour VTEN

A 3D BD isn't upscaled. Since it's sending a 1080P signal for 3D.

Maybe what I am noticing is the 1080 upscaling, which might be more noticeable in 3D

Timeline was about the same. Was a BDPxxxx model, I just don't recall exactly which one now. Where I noticed differences were in the 3D rendering, where with the Sony I seemed to get more ghosting and the depth seemed to be less.

I'm sure if I went back and compared the players again I'd completely second guess my original experience. Back then I was probably just giddy to have the 4K player and justifying it any way possible.

I have both of them connected and in active use...So obviosuly there is something to Sony BD6500 that my eyes (or mind LOL) still enjoy

I had the Sony 6500 connected to my TV before the Samsung and could not tell any diff in 3D when I started using the Samsung. Maybe some of your settings on the Samsung are affecting the picture since you have it setup to play bluray and 4K?

I have mine set at Auto on color format and 1080p on resolution while playing 3D movies. If you have your Samsung set to Auto for resolution then maybe it's trying to upscale the picture like a standard bluray??

Yes I have it set on Auto. Too much work to constantly fiddling with commands switching back and forth from 1080 to 2160 and back depending on what I am playing

Now that I think about it it shouldn't upscale a 1080p 3D image tho, but maybe something going on there between player upscaling and 3D??

or maybe my Oled TV and Sony BD player just work better together.
I paid less than $100 for the Sony player last year and approx. $300 for the Samsung when it first came out

Next time I watch a 3D movie I will set the resolution to Auto and see if the player's upscaling is messing with the 3D image at all. Next time you watch a 3D movie make sure display info is saying 1080/24p. With resolution set to Auto the display info would normally read 3840x2160p while playing 2D blurays

I keep both players on Resolution Auto, that way I dont have to constantly mess with settings

Yes I know What I'm saying is that with resolution set to Auto the player is upscaling a standard 2D bluray, but what I'm curious about is what does it do to a 3D bluray signal? In theory it shouldn't do anything, but maybe some kind of processing of the signal is happening??

What happens if I forget resolution set on 1080p in the player and the next day I play a UHD disc at 1080p?

I think they play fine at 1080p thought I read some are doing that to get better audio but they don't have 4K

If you like your player upscaling probably best to just keep it at Auto tho, I am curious tho if the player upscaling affects the 3D signal at all. I would switch back and forth myself.
