A very enjoyable crime/thriller. I was mostly interested by Morgan Freeman and his character as criminal psychologist Alex Cross and his soft spoken ways as he is trying to catch serial killers.

Quote:
Eight kidnapped women. All beautiful. All talented. All in danger of having their lives cut cruelly short if police detective Alex Cross and key witness Kate McTiernan can't locate the elusive "collector" who calls himself Casanova.

This comic book-based movie just was not my 'cup of tea'. I did enjoy though Patrick Stewart & Ian McKellen!

Quote:
Born into a world filled with prejudice are children who possess extraordinary powers the result of unique genetic mutations. Under the tutelage of Professor X (Patrick Stewart), the outcasts learn to harness their powers and must now protect mankind from the evil Magneto (Ian McKellen).

Free Fire -
Total disappointment.
Don't believe the hype. I had heard all these rave reviews and thought the trailer looked fun, so I went into this primed to love it. But instead of the kinetic, Smokin' Aces-type non-stop chaotic shootout people describe it as, I got a film that (even after taking too long to finally get to the shootout) was surprisingly boring, sloppy, and uninteresting. Even at a lean 90 minutes I must have looked at my watch five times wondering how much longer until it would be over.
Gave it the extra bump to 3 stars due to some of the actors, but it's probably more of a 2.75. I didn't hate it, but it's nowhere near as good as I expected or had heard.
A24 continues to fail to impress me. They have put out no great films, a couple decent movies, and a whole lot of junk.

Sylvia Scarlett (1935)

This is an odd little film which I'm surprised flew by the censors of the time especially considering the Hays Code was starting to be strictly enforced the year before. Unfortunately the audiences of that time didn't take too kindly to it and it was considered a big box office failure. I've had this as part of my Katharine Hepburn collection but have never gotten around to watching it till now. Thank you odguitar for this most excellent recommendation. I watched this with family members last night and ended up having to turn it off but I was able to watch it this morning. Good movie, ahead of it's time.
