I wanted to thank all the people that posted on Raro's facebook and emailed them about The Conformist, as it was confirmed today the upcoming Blu-ray release will use the Cineteca di Bologna restoration. Let's see how it all turns out

But didn't Raro's Italian release also use the Cineteca di Bologna restoration - just scrubbed clean with DNR? Given Raro's recent track record, I'll be pleasantly surprised if it's anything but a port of that transfer

IT is beyond fun! I love this trashy delight of a film. Not everyone hold the same opinion though but hey.

i wish they would leave some classic movies alone. a lot of their release look worse than some stuff that kino did.. most of their movies only get a 2/3 of 5 star movie rating? srsly?

It's a shame really that this company ruins the presentation of some nice films. I really wanted the two Antonioni Blu-rays but they are digitized and look awful. I would rather have had them as raw (no DNR) upgrades than scrubbed and waxy like they are. THE CONFORMIST is such a beautiful film and I'm crossing my fingers since the source material is in good condition. But I'll wait for reviews before spending my cash. You just cannot pre-order with this company.
"To state things plainly is the function of journalism; Alex instead writes fugitive reviews, allusive, symbolic, full of imagery and allegory, and by leaving things out, he allows the reader the privilege of creating along with him."

i was thinking about getting these 2 as well. i even thought about ordering them with my Criterions of Antonioni in the last B&N sale.
But after taking a look at reviews for some other classic movies they did mess up , i decided against them.

its really a shame since they got a few really nice movies. but i sometimes about the same if Olive Films and KINO grab some movies that i hoped would be released by Criterion / Cohen

Thanks for this great topic.

I have some questions, I hope some one can answer them.

Does anybody know if Raro Video is going to update their DVDs and release them into Blu rays? I am looking to buy some titles but If they will release them into blu rays I could wait, some of the titles are: To be Twenty, Waves of Lust, Crime of Love, The Nude Restaurant etc..

Also are there an official release date for these titles: Play Motel, Slaughter Hotel, Le Soldatesse, La cuccagna

Thanks.

Hey Superx

The DVD titles -- no preliminary plans for Blu-ray updates of these titles have been revealed up to this point.

The Blu-ray titles -- no dates yet, but when such are revealed, this thread will be immediately updated. We will have an announcement on the main page as well

Probably at point but maybe not, I asked myself the same question at one point but said heck with it and just bought the DVD's of theirs I wanted.

Thank you guys for the answers, yes I think I will buy the DVDs and later if they will release the blu rays I will upgrade, Raro Video releases really worth the pay.

I just finished watching Rulers of The City today, it is really great gangster movie, and I like how Fernando Di Leo used funny lines and the comedy element throughout the movie, it is unique and different than his previous films, a lot of fun. Now I need to buy the second blu ray boxset.

I watched this movie long time ago, I got it on DVD Paramount release (Region 1) , can someone explain what is exactly Cineteca di Bologna restoration? I mean what will be different in this one than the DVD version?

Thanks.

Same version of the film just restored visually and audibly. Cineteca di Bologna is based out of Italy(Bologna) and preserve and restore work. They handled the most current restoration of The Conformist and I think many would agree with the most superior outcome.

At the beginning of last year, I asked Raro and Arrow if they plan on releasing To Be Twenty on blu-ray. Unfortunately, both said "No".

These days however, I'd be wary of anything announced by Raro.

The clips in the menu screen are scary looking but the film itself does not look bad...not great but not bad. In fact, much better than what the people who have not seen it make it out to be. There's no evidence of heavy DNR use on the movie itself...on the menu screen yes, but no on the film.
