Just bought a house, building my first dedicated HT.

Sorry for the long delay since my last update... It's been crazy.

The week the carpet was installed I got pretty sick and wasn't able to do much besides loaf on the couch.

Then I got better.... and lacked the motivation to work on stuff since the space is usable. I have spent some serious time with my new TV and setup. I'm VERY pleased I needed a break.

Today I got off my butt and started doing trim work. Also borrowed a table saw and chop saw so I can work on framing out the door and window.

I got most of my trim done, the few remaining pieces can't be done until I get the doors trimmed out.

The basement is a mess right now, so I'll get it cleaned up and snap a few pics. I'll post them as soon as possible.

Ok so I got the basement cleaned up enough to take some pictures.

Another project over the last few days has been building my computer desk. I decided I didn't want to pay a few hundred for the size of desk I was wanting, so I built my own.

Please ignore the untrimmed areas as well as the doors and window. They are slow going.

Current hodge-podge of remotes MX-1200, MX700, and a wireless keyboard/mouse. Fortunately my vendor login to URC still works so I was able to get the software to program these.



These are the endcaps I painted black in my previous post (to hide the ugly yellow insulation between joists.





I'll post back more once I get things polished.

I also need to post pics of my AV closet where all the gear is located... will do that next week.

Great pics, & I was wondering where your Gear was (figured it was in a closet somewhere ).

How big is your TV, 65" ? It looks HUGE!! Great room & with it carpeted & the huge couch, I bet it Sounds incredible.

Thanks! The sound is pretty incredible. I expected the ceiling to be bad for dynamics, but it really doesn't seem to have much of a baffling effect. The plush carpet, pillows and couch help to deaden the reflections.

The TV is a 64 plasma... LOVE the picture.

Behind the wall I built (under the stairs) is all the gear. Right now its all being powered by a Yamaha A1010... but my Emotiva XPA-3 will be here in a few days I am stoked!

Wish I had a camera to take pics with... this whole time I've just been using my iPad

That's cool (the sound, as I expected it to be ). Is the TV a Samsung or diff brand? WHEN I upgrade from my 50" DLP

. I'm about 8.5' away now, so when I upgrade the TV, it'll go back at least 10-12" so I'm pretty sure a 60-65" Plasma shouldn't be Too Large from 9.5-10'.

Damn, a New EMOTIVA XPA-3 too?! Sweet! I'll prob get something similar for my 4 Surrounds, hopefully next year sometime. I'm not sure if I should just let my Onkoy 706 power the Front Soundstage alone, or get an amp for those (?) as well. Thoughts?

I respect your setup but you need a bigger tv or a projector.

I think both the office & HT look OUTSTANDING!!! . . . ������

Couple questions:

1) Where's your second sub located?
2) Where's your left-surround speaker mounted?
3) Do you intend to put french doors (or s/t of the sort) between the two rooms -or- leave it opened? Just curious?

In these pics, those end-caps look great (& creative solution) . . . do you intend to put up crown molding?

Keep the pics coming . . . looks excellent . . . really am envious dude ��. What's the first official movie you've watched in your new HT room?

p.s., did you use a door for your desktop? Looks great . . .

1) Second sub is upstairs for now, I'll bring it down soon. I wanna see how much bass I gain from my Emotiva first
2) Left surround is on the wall that separates the 2 rooms, you just can't see it in the pictures
3)For now I plan to leave it open. The opening is 11 ft, so It would take some massive doors/framing to do... but I would like to have the option of closing doors between the areas.

and yes, I did use a door as my desk top. A few coats of stain and poly... sanded it down and its a perfect size desk top.

First movies were Avengers and the new Total Recall (which wasn't as bad as the reviews led me to believe) Then we had a "Homeland" marathon to get caught up on that addictive show.

I am pretty much done. Today I finished all the trim, got the window framed and finished as well as the insulation covered. The space is pretty much DONE!!!!

Yeah, I overdid it a bit... 300 lb shelving brackets. But I didn't want to skimp since I'll have about 150 lbs of amps on there.

Yeah, I know I'll be doing some acoustic treatments soon. A few bass traps will be in the works. I haven't decided on subwoofer(s) yet, so I'll wait until I get that figured out. For now, the towers and the basic sub give me ample low-end.

Surprisingly the couch, carpet and all the pillows (the couch came with 15 plush throw pillows) really suck up the sound. There is no audible echo when you snap your fingers.

Awesome space! I like the way you did the inset images of the before and afters. Great idea.

As for the wife, mine didn't resist much (after I waited years to start the project.) The first time she was watching something in the theater with me she told me she was blown away. She said she never knew what I had in mind but was very happy I had done it. I know the projector costs a lot, but if the screen is a consideration, look into DIY spandex. I LOVE my screen and I only have about $200 in it!
