Personally I could see Sony and some of the big players being less than enthused about making any kind of expansion box in support of DVI or Displayport. Mainly because I think they are less than enthused about helping us with consumer products with this kind of computer compatibility. Someone over there seems to have this idea that unless your shooting footage with a 4K CineAlta camera and working on the production side of the business then owning a computer probably means your up to no good. Oy. Call me a pessimist but I could see them putting it directly on to the projector, jacking up the price 40% and marketing it as a "professional" or "industrial" product. The "analog sunset" has kind of turned me in to a big time cynic when it comes to connectivity issues.

You guys have been busy. HDMI capabilities is something that keeps popping up when talking about 4K. They really need to sort that out.
I really, really want to hit the button on the JVC X 95. However I think as soon as I get it I will want next years 4K model. Also by this time the first Hobbit will hit blu. Maybe the HFR thingy will get sorted. Heres hoping. ![]() So I think I will sit on it until the 2014 models are released. It is not like I'm missing anything. I watch everything at a 1:1 screen width ratio with a native contrast of 100,000:1 and have not spotted a pixel in a year. We will see. Maybe Red will come back??? Dono

That's it right there! Yeah, if Red (of the Red Camera/RedRay folks) are able to deliver on their 4K laser projector at the price they are talking about (like staying shy of $10K).. then WOW.
If I shelled out for the X95 just six months before that announcement I would probably be kicking myself. If I shelled out over 20 grand on the Sony only a few months before that announcement I'd probably be in the hospital.

I wonder if Trogdor could make us a E-shift 2 Lens to fit in front of our JVC's in the meantime.

Good news! Sony recently announced a new 4K projector with support of Dual Displayport at 60 FPS at 10 Bit color!
http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/cat-pro...duct-VPLGT100/ The bad news though is that it costs $50,000, twice the price of the VW1000ES, and isn't radically different from it otherwise. I'm still waiting, but looks like Displayport does have a future in the projector market.

Very Cool. Not sure if you read the magazine "Widescreen Review" Trog but display guru Joe Kane does a piece in it monthly. I know this last issue he spent some time discussing the development of the new 2160p/4k standard and some of the tech issues surrounding it. HDMI, Displayport and 4K was I think was specifically mentioned by him. I will try to find a way to link to it or at least dig up the quotes. You are right, I think Displayport definitely has a future in the near term at least.
