I'm not normally a 3D cheerleader, but along with Gravity and Hugo, I think you are missing something by not see this in 3D. Not saying you can't appreciate it, but the 3D definitely enhances this.

Didn't see Hugo & not interested, but yes, Pi and Gravity looked terrific in 3D - on the big screen in theater. But I have no interest in adding 3D to the home theater as around 1% of my viewing time would be for 3D Blu-ray. Yes, 3D TV & projectors can convert 2D content to 3D, but I'm not really interested in seeing what Rachael Maddow or a football game look like in fake 3D.

I expected to hate the film because I think Ang Lee is overrated, because he treated the effects people who made the film possible rather poorly and because the film looked like a lot of new age spiritual waffle of the sort I can't stand.

But I loved it and it has become one of my most re-watched movies of recent years. It's simply one of the most spectacular looking films ever made and unlike some, I think the ending is clever and far more ambiguous than a simple plot twist. I also love animals and cats in particular and loved Richard Parker, a rare not anthropomorphic animal character. One of a small number of films that convinced me to upgrade to a 3D projector.
