The update went fine for me (on the slim, haven't tried it on one of the original fat PS3s yet) but the only thing I did on the PS3 yesterday was play GT6. Hopefully they release info on what was changed at some point.

I find it very strange that the US site hasn't updated to offer the firmware for download yet.

Usually I am the first to download my firmware, but I always know that it's coming at least a day in advance and have read the official changelog from Sony regarding said update. But, this just came out of nowhere and, other than the PS3 saying I need to update, seems to be completely ignored by Sony themselves... almost as if they don't realize that it went live or that it accidentally went live before it was ready.

This update completely messed up my ps3. It's super slow, it freezes constantly, and it's always forcing my console to do a file system restore so many times already. It's ridiculous.

Which model do you have? And, have you installed a bigger hard drive on it?

I have the Slim version. I've had it since it first came out back in Spring of 2010. I have not installed a new hard drive. It's still the same one that came with the ps3. All these years there was never a problem up until the latest update last week.

I find it hard to believe that this update is the culprit if you haven't changed anything about your system. The handful of complainers are likely just experiencing a coincidental malfunction with the timing of the firmware release. All of my friends and co-workers have not experienced any problems and there is a very large variation of systems ranging from original launch to latest slim, all with various states of upgrades from none to 1TB HDD.

I understand a few hiccups here and there but what I'm experiencing is beyond. I've asked a few co workers today if they are having issues and they are having the same ones as me. Even on twitter and other forums, I'm not the only one suffering similar issues.

I just updated my fat 60gb with 4.55 and starting getting freezing disc's and other odd issues. I thought it might be a bad laser and decided it was time to replace the system. To my dismay the band new super slim is exhibiting the same issues after updating to 4.55.

My advise is to wait, I think there is something really wrong with this update. There had better be.

I've had Saints Row IV freeze on me twelve times since last Thursday which was after I had updated my system but that game has had freezing issues for months from what I read online. I played Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault the same week after updating and had no problems.

My PS3 caught fire & melted.

Seriously, I have this firmware & have played The Last of Us DLC with no issues but haven't been on the system long enough to check to see that all works well. Hopefully Sony is aware & a quick patch to the patch will be out soon!

I thought I heard mine beep 3 times loud as well. hmm..

I havent updated mine to 4.55 yet, and now I'm very nervous. But I know its needed. Will everything be fine? Are these issues just happening to a minority of systems?

I had one freeze a week ago when I started up Remember Me but I haven't had any issues since, like I said in one of my previous post I suspect Saint's Row IV was the problem for me.

I'm always nervous about these updates, but I updated both my slim (1TB HD) and my phatty (500GB HD) when 4.55 1st launched, with no issues so far.
