A couple of days ago I finally bought my first blu-ray player, a region free Toshiba, after my DVD Changer broke. Wow. Until now I have never seen a blu-ray transfer before. Insane. Color, crispness, shadow and light, all of it puts standard DVD to shame.
I can now, finally, play those UK discs I've collected throughout the years, too, especially the D-Cut of ARMY OF DARKNESS. Inaugurating the player tonight with Twilight Time's FRIGHT NIGHT. |

Welcome to the club.
Also, make sure you setup your TV as best as you can. You can get some great settings for specific TVs on AVSforum, or you can buy a calibration disk like the Spears and Munsil blu-ray - to help get it looking at good as possible. Enjoy

I have been dying to go blu since 2009, then my tube TV died. I needed to replace it. Next Christmas I decided to buy a VHS/DVD Recorder, before the blu, then Christmas 2011, the money fell through at the last moment. Wasn't planning on going blu, well, at least, trying again, until this coming Christmas, but all that changed when my DVD Changer died. It came down to NEEDING a player, and so I finally scrapped the money together to get a region free blu-ray player. Even though I haven't gotten one until now, I STILL kept track of what came out on blu, and hating when the studios but director's cuts and extras ONLY on blu-rays. Man, that pissed me off.
I bought that D-Cut of ARMY OF DARKNESS from Diabolik DVD WAY back in summer of 2010. Jesus, I can now watch it. |

Welcome aboard. I've been reading about blu ray since the formats started in 2006 and haven't really started my collection growing until this year, actually. Prices are really settling down and the format's in mainstream conscience and hands. This isn't like 2006/2007 when Fox titles were $30 and run of mill, undesirable titles could still fetch about $15 on the used market. Plenty of good deals to be had now on both players and movies.
