aren't most slipcovers the exact same as the amaray cover? do people just keep it as a cover to protect the amaray or is there some other fascination with it?

Well, I just bought the Alien 35th Anniversary Edition exclusively for the slip and bonus materials (comic book and art cards). But I only paid $2.99 for it so I didn't feel completely stupid considering this is now my 3rd copy of this blu-ray. So I suppose it can happen to me if the price is reasonable and/or the slip/content are just too cool and I feel like it's a must have addition to my collection.

I know this thread is somewhat old but I get the sense a lot of opinions have probably changed over the years. There are tons of members and collectors completely obsessed with owning slipcovers and I would think a lot of people double/triple dip just for slips.

No, I would not buy a Blu-ray JUST to get a cover. I don't like slipcovers and usually throw them out.

There have been a handful of movies I've blind bought over the years just because they came with a slip. I do my best to wait until I find them fairly cheap, usually under $10, but there are times I find myself blind buying if it's from an obscure company that isn't known for having slips or if it's a movie I know won't be carried in store long. So even though I haven't gotten a lot of them, I can say that yes I have bought blu-ray's over the years just because they came with a slipcover.

nope. While they are nice, I buy movies because I want to watch the film, not because of the packaging so I really don't care if it has a slipcover or not. I will admit it is a little annoying when you buy seasons and end up with some with and some without but that is pretty low on my list of annoyances.
