The End Of The Smartphone Era Is Coming

You've heard that Google is working on computerized glasses. They're called Google Glass, and developers can already buy them.
It turns out Microsoft is working on something similar. It filed some patents on the project and Unwired View dug them up.
There's a big difference between what Microsoft is working on and Google Glass, though.
The most recent word out of Google is that Google Glass isn't going to use "augmented reality" – where data and illustrations overlay the actual world around you.
Google Glass is actually just a tiny screen you have to look up and to the left to see.
Microsoft's glasses seem to utilize augmented reality. In a patent illustration we've embedded below, you can see that the glasses put data on top of a live action concert and a ballgame.
Both gadget concepts are very interesting.
Lots of people disagree with me, including other BI writers, but I think something like Google Glass or whatever Microsoft is working on could end up replacing the smartphone as the dominant way people access the Internet and connect to each other.
First off: something has to. Disruption is inevitable.
Secondly: The trend is obvious.
Computers have been getting smaller and closer to our faces since their very beginning.
First they were in big rooms, then they sat on desktops, then they sat on our laps, and now they're in our palms. Next they'll be on our faces.
(Eventually they'll be in our brains.)
By the way, you can bet that if Microsoft and Google are working on computerized glasses, so is Apple and Jony Ive.
And that's pretty exciting.

I need to sell my google stock if they think people will buy into this... Its as bad as the google tvs that flopped.

I hope these do come out if not from Google someone else, the Japanese are also working on a model like this. These have accidents written all over them and we need to reduce the world's population, it's the perfect way of doing it

still mad the tv industry refuses to let a product like that work it's not like it's google's fault it was a flop

Apparently these developers are forgetting that a sizeable portion of the population have to wear prescription glasses so who would want to wear a pair of glasses on top of another pair? Same reason why 3D will never be more than a fading fad.

I played with the sony tv/ bd player and it was sloppy as hell. It needs to be flawless for something like this to catch on. So from that perspective it was googles fault.

Same is true of 3dTVs if you want people to adopt something new and especially something they don't need, it needs to be perfect.

you mean sony's fault. not google's fault sony screwed it up

I doubt google just handed it to them and said good luck, they're both culpable if they didn't have good communication during the construction phase.

the nexus line of phones suffer from no problems. yet lots of skinned phones do. are you sure it's google's fault?

they don't build the devices together. google provides the software, then sony takes it and screws it up every google tv i've played with has performed fine though so i'm not even sure what you were seeing

If google just hands off and says not our problem then they should accept it when things go wrong/fail, because ultimately its their name on the line [along with sony, exc.]

Did you play with the sony one! The movement between features was slow, browser was average with terrible interface, the google tv menu was a clunky mess [think direct tv black hd-dvr that had the slowest menu movement on the planet].
