I don't understand, the English track is 5.1 but only the left and right channels, with the same signal (aka: mono) along with .1 channel are active, the rest are silent, it's silly, isn't it? They shuold have mapped it as 2.1.

Odd that it's a VC-1 encode though. Perhaps they've been sitting on this for a while? Or do they still release stuff with VC-1?

Universal, it seems, is still using VC-1 for some of their new releases.

No its 2.1 actually, from the original SenSurround source tapes.

Left, Right and subwoofer.

It might show as 5.1 on some players. But will play left right and sub only.

The stream (.m2ts) for the actual movie, along with a lot of the other of the disc contents, was created in mid February of this year. All of the other stream files (extras, etc) were created toward the beginning of January.

So it appears to be a relatively new disc.

Just watched my disc this afternoon. Wow, what a fantastic presentation. The video looked excellent. and the sensurround was amazing! There was some serious bass in this sensurround track. Great release and I hope they treat the entire series to such a quality release.

Hopefully this also means they'll visit Buck Rogers soon. There was a comic convention this weekend a couple hours away from where I live and they were featuring Gil Gerard, but unfortunately I wasn't able to go for the ride. It would have been nice to meet him.

Well that didn't take long, look like a wide release will happen in August:

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=11228

Currently available as a Best Buy exclusive, Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced the wide release of Battlestar Galactica (1978), the re-cut 124-minute version of "Saga Of A Star World," released in theaters (in Sensurround) several months after the $7 million, 148-minute TV pilot's broadcast premiere. The 35th Anniversary Edition release of the film will be available online and in retail stores on August 6th.

Official Synopsis: In the deepest reaches of space, it is a fight to save all human life from extinction in this sci-fi adventure that launched the Battlestar Galactica phenomenon. After The Cylons launch a devastating surprise attack on the Twelve Colonies, a lone flagship battlestar, the Galactica, remains to aid the surviving colonists on their epic journey for a new home to a far-off legendary planet: Earth. They must survive the pursuing Cylons in a series of epic battles that will determine the fate of the human race in this non-stop action-packed classic filled with cutting-edge special effects by Academy Award-winner John Dykstra.

Battlestar Galactica is presented in 1080p and DTS-HD Master Audio 2.1 with Sensurround.

Watching this certainly brought back a lot of nostalgic memories.

As a child, I absolutely loved BG and owned just about all the toys (including the safety-recalled Viper that could shoot the missile which children were choking on ).

While it doesn't hold up all that well, I'd still purchase a Blu-ray release of the TV series for nostalgia purposes.
