Tokyo Drift will always be the third movie. With the FF6 tie-in there will be no way of watching the movies in true chronological order because FF6 and TD will basically overlap. You won't be able to, say, move it to the sixth slot of your marathon without having a major plot point spoiled.
This obsession with chronological order is ridiculous. There's absolutely nothing wrong with watching Tokyo Drift, then watching 3 stories that take place before it, then seeing an Easter egg event that brings it all together. In fact this is a case where it's better that way. Even if you could re-edit Tokyo Drift and FF6 together you would still render the scenes in 4&5 with Han talking about going to Tokyo redundant. Those scenes were intended to be experienced by people who know what happens to him in Tokyo. I remember when all the Avengers phase 1 movies came out all these people were talking this ridiculous chronological marathon. There's no benefit of watching Captain America first but the whole Howard Stark plot sure as hell suffers from being viewed that way, and it ruins the Nick Fury stuff too. Same thing here.

2) Buy them from Amazon and see what happens. 3) Buy from a brick-and-mortar store if you really want to have the slipcovers.

I suspect that FF7 will actually take place around Tokyo Drift. It'll be easy to frame Vin's cameo at the end of TD as a "recruitment."
Right now I have 1-4 on two DVD double features I found at a pawnshop and 5 on Blu-Ray. I wonder if they'll wait for 7 or do a box set out of 1-6. The wisest method in my mind would actually be trilogy boxes -- then they can do a third one when they get to 9, which seems almost inevitable. It's 50/50 really, but they were just released about a month ago so it's possible that they still have them.

I am quite surprised that the Fast & Furious Franchise has not yet included the Judas Priest song "Freewheel Burning" into the mix. Just Listen and see.....
