Howdy, y'all.
Looking at getting into vinyl and was checking the local used market. Found a Marantz TT-185 for $40. Does anyone know anything about this model? Thank you!

I haven't used it, but it looks to be a bottom-of-the-line TT from the 80's. This is after "Marantz" was bought out and got cheap.
It would get you started, but you'd want to upgrade it pretty quickly. |

Thanks. Not sure if I want to bother with it then, even at $40. Would still need a pre-amp. My Denon AVR-1712 does not have an input.

If you have the $$, the Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB isn't a bad TT. Built to look and act like the Technics 1200. Has a built in Pre-amp, so that would save you some $$. I don't own one, but if 200 was my budget and I was just getting into the world of TT's then I would get this one. I played around with one in a store not too long ago. Even with this TT, you will soon fight the urge to upgrade. (I'm currently in the saving $$ mode) Last edited by leeving; 12-08-2012 at 07:07 AM. |
