Even if it did, which at this point seems unlikely, Legacy has more than double the budget, so where Identity made back double its budget, Legacy is struggling just to meet its own.

I've yet to see it, might catch it this week, but even if it's good, people are really missing Damon it seems, and the box office suffered heavily from it. If they make a fifth and bring back Damon, I can guarantee the series will see an upswing from this lackluster perfomance.

The omission of Damon is definitely the reason for the poor box office numbers. I saw it last night & thought it stood up well against the other movies. Very smart & great action IMO but the first 30 minutes very a mix of excellent (scenes with Renner) & boring (scenes with Norton, with Norton scenes picking up after
[Show spoiler]the deaths of the other outcome agents

It's up to $96,247,000 (estimates) through today right now in the US. Looks like it will pass $100 after all.

$104m now. It may very well get to 125m. All depends on theater loss.

The Bourne Legacy and Ted sequels confirmed

Universal has confirmed that it’s adding some more sequels to its slate, with follow-ups to both The Bourne Legacy and Ted moving into development. This follows the news that it’s working on a spin-off of sorts to its early summer hit, Snow White And The Huntsman. Only Battleship of its summer movies does not get a sequel, it seems.

In the case of Seth MacFarlane’s swear bear movie, Ted, the decision was as close to a no-brainer as you can get. The film has been a huge hit for the studio, with $217m of takings in the US alone, and a global total that’s about to break $400m. All on a budget of around $50m.

As for The Bourne Legacy? Well, that was a little less clear-cut. The film has performed far below the level of the Matt Damon-headlined Bourne movies, with $104m of takings in America. Outside of the US, it’s not done too much better, adding only $78m to date. Primarily, we might suggest, because it’s a rotten film, that’s petrified of cutting the cord from Jason Bourne.

However, Universal wants more Bourne, it’s been revealed, and we wonder if it might actively pursue an Aaron Cross/Jason Bourne crossover movie. It might be the best chance for the franchise.

No timelines for either Bourne 5 or Ted 2 have been announced. When we know more, we’ll let you know.

Just watched it yesterday and this is what I think about it:

Movie : 4 out of 5

I actually enjoyed this a lot and the first hour was really interesting.
Minor spoilers for those who haven't watched the movie yet.
The movie shows the domino effect caused by Jason Bourne's activities. I always suspected that there were many more Black Ops Divisions apart from Treadstone and Blackbriar and I'm glad this movie went into that. We are introduced to two more operations in this movie -Outcome (agents on a regimen of drugs/gene splicing to enhance mental and physical capabilities) and LARX (a cross between Treadstone and Outcome programs. In other words, the perfect killing machine.).
Introducing Jeremy Renner as an Outcome agent on pills trying to survive due to Bourne sending the CIA into panic mode is the perfect way to spin off off the original Bourne Trilogy. I don't really see any other way they could have done that. The first part of the film focuses on the Agency's vain attempts on damage control but the most gripping aspect of this movie is learning about the process of the Outcome program in detail.
I see this movie as the first part of a new set of Aaron Cross movies. The way this movie ended and the way Ultimatum ended, the writers can now go in any direction they want and are free to tie the two stories together however they see fit now that Legacy has set the table. Legacy was more or less like Identity. We learn a bit about the protagonist and a history between Edward Norton and Renner is hinted at, the main conflict is resolved by the end and is kinda open ended just like the first one.
The action is great in this movie and is present when essential to the story just like the first Bourne movie. Renner's hand-to-hand close quarter combat is a thrill to watch and the drone attack in the beginning is one of the best action sequences in the Bourne series. I was worried about the 2 and a half hour runtime as I don't usually like long movies but time seemed to fly by when I was watching this movie.

I would love it if we start getting Cross and Bourne movies with the plots intersecting as the writers seem fit, kinda like The Avengers. This franchise still has a lot of potential and doesn't need to be confined to one character and I'm glad to say that Legacy proved that.

The color grading in this film is great and follows the same tone of the previous films. Great framing and camera work too though I missed Greengrass's shaky cam a bit.

Great pacing, gripping plot, clever and well written action set pieces. This has given way to a new age of 'Bourne' movies . One of the most underrated movies of the year.

Now that I've watched the movie, I'm interested in knowing why most people didn't like it.

I thought it was an interesting plot. But it felt VERY slow paced to me. And for it being a Bourne movie, it didn't really have a lot of action. Two good action pieces. But I was pretty bored at times
