How about this one, a low budget Japanese film called Psycho Gothic Lolita, or Gothic & Lolita Psycho as it's known in Japan. It's just a blast, I love it to death. It's usually lumped into the Japanese splattergore genre that was popular a few years back (The Machine Girl, Tokyo Gore Police, etc.) but it's more action based than it is on blood. The premise is basically a revenge film; a gothic lolita hunts down the people responsible for killing her mother and crippling her father.

It also has one of my all-time favorite movie villains, a girl named Elle, as seen below (Ignore the title of the video).

I highly recommend you watch this film as soon as you can, it's the very definition of a hidden gem. Its movies like this that make me seek out lesser known films.

Default The Forbidden Room

Recently saw The Forbidden Room. The directors were there, and Guy Maddin is a god. Nothing he said made any sense out of context. He described it as a seance with lost films. Then the movie started and it began to make sense. It's a total head trip into the sub-sub-sub-subconscious, and it implodes and deconstructs in this grand finale. Doesn't always hit the mark, but there are moments of brilliance and it's totally worth it. I was hoping for a Criterion release, since they have My Winnipeg, but it seems Kino Lorber snagged it.

The Wait (2013)

Will likely never see a blu-ray release. This is for arthouse fans and people into movies which are on the strange side. If you liked Beyond the Black Rainbow or Magic Magic you may also like this.

"An enigmatic phone call from a psychic, catapults a family into a state of suspended belief while waiting for their recently deceased mother to be resurrected. One sister believes the claim, and the other staunchly opposes it until she encounters a chance at love, giving her hope that anything, even resurrection, is possible. A discordant struggle between sisters plays out in a world where the virtual and real often converge."
“They knead their own flesh into daily bread, and transmute their contrite hearts into basins of gruel."

Speak (2004)

Excellent teen high school drama, starring a perfectly cast thirteen-year-old Kristen Stewart in a lead role that plays to all of her strengths as an actress; it's a pity so many people seem to have written her off since she did the Twilight saga, and that so few seem to know about this movie at all. Anyway, I very highly recommend it, especially to anyone who also enjoyed The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

The Guest is amazing, I actually bought this movie on Blu-Ray blindly and for quite the pretty penny but the film made me not regret a thing. I also highly recommend this film, if you like slow paced thrillers.

Predestination is still on my list of waiting to be seen films.

Right, i actually picked one probably lesser known in the US and one lesser known in Europe.

I don't know if it's already been mentioned but I recently discovered the movie
POD on Netflix. It was directed by Mickey Keating & I'll definitely be checking out his other works like Darling when it's available.

Another movie I'll add is one from 2010 but I didn't discover till last year so I was late to the party but I loved it. It's definitely not for everyone but for those with .... an artistic mindset will probably enjoy it.

Beyond the Black Rainbow.

Top Shelf Blu Rays: Blade Runner, Beyond the Black Rainbow, TRON, Star Wars, Alien, Mad Max Fury Road, Man of Steel

Uncommon movie, not recommended for strict artsy haters.
Great movie. Wish Forster would do a movie like this again in the near furture. I still think it's his best film.

Farewell (2009)

Great spy thriller starring Emir Kusturica. Loosely based on the true story of a KGB official who gave Soviet secrets to the French government.
