I'm going to be installing a home theater room and am questioning whether I replace them or not (Note, I'm only talking about listening to music here). My first instinct would be to get some Imagine T2's as I really like the look. But the problem is to drive them (300 watts) I'd have to get a new stereo amp.

I love the Pioneer amp I currently have and CD/SACDs sound awesome on my current setup (not an overly large room, sitting about 6-8 feet from speakers).

So maybe I don't need that much power.....ok, so I look at the Imagine bookshelfs which are rated at 125wpc. However, they use the smaller 5 1/4" woofer. Air displacement is air displacement, and I'm thinking my old speakers would have much better 'oomph' to them as a result.

Thoughts?
Where did you get the idea that it needs 300 watts because I would be in lacking in the power department since my amp is not 300 watts. I listen to music a lot and from my experience with my speakers is that they benefit with some juice.

However, I don't sit that close like you do and my speakers are about 10.5 feet apart with my listening position at 11.5 feet.

I agree the imagine Bs do not have much bass and you probably want a sub with them.

Ok, so dumb question....how do I get it to engage the sub if I'm listening in stereo? Besides which, my understanding of SACD is that it doesn't support using a Sub.

your receiver should have a setting that will play in stereo and use the crossover to you sub. i can do it with my integra, dont know why the pioneers wouldnt have a similar setting.

Ok, I went through the manual and found the setting. I'll play around with it today.

Question - if I was to get the T2's.....I'm assuming they'd qualify as 'Large' speakers in terms of receiver setup correct? Meaning I wouldn't have to get a separate sub?

For music, I listen in 2 channel strictly and just can't get into multichannel music or with a sub added. Its what I am used to but you might want a sub if you are into movies.

Its a matter of how you have been listening to music and what your personal taste is. I have always been used to listening in 2 channel mode but if you like multichannel SACD's, then maybe the Imagine B's with a great sub.

Good luck either way.

i have not heard the T2s so I cant say what kind of bass reproduction theyll have. you will have to listen and determine for yourself if they do enough on their own or if they need a sub. I think that the Imagine Ts need a sub personally.

Like Solo, i only use 2 speakers when I listen to music, i dont use a sub. but my monitors are capable of some very good bass.

For movies tho, i think you should crossover to a sub.

Paul Barton with his dedication in the NRC Anechoic Chamber. Thought I share this with members here. Looks like the Imagine B in the chamber.
