So are they going to release them separately? I don't have the money to jsut drop $300 on one item, especially since I already own Seasons 5 and 6 and the specials on BD.

There were initially reports that S1-S4 would be available separately on Blu-ray this year, but BBC Video US apparently decided to wait until 2015.

I would imagine the set without discs wouldn't sell for quite as much at this point seeing as it's no longer out of stock on Amazon and other sellers. "OOP"-like status grossly increases the price most people are willing to pay for an item. I personally sold my entire set for over $500 because I had watched all the episodes again in HD and the non-extending 11th Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver universal remote lost its novelty quite quickly. Making about $200 in profit for simply reselling an item sounds more than good enough to me!

In short, I think it was mostly fetching a lot of money because it started out *actually* being a "Limited Edition" item and now they've made a lot more, so it's not really limited anymore.

So I want to buy this set but am concerned about how they were able to get their hands on more. The BBC shop isnt selling any more of them and it would make sense that they would be selling them as well if they produced more.

So...where are they getting more? Are they selling used sets as new? If they are that is pretty messed up.

Pretty sure this was answered early on in this thread but how much of a improvement are the 1080p versions of the 5th and 6th series over the original digipak release of the 5tha dn 6th (1080i)?

I ask because I just noticed the 6th series 4 disc re-release (which I assume is the same version from this set).

Really? This is a bummer. I would love to get these. I just hope they just don't charge a ridiculous amount for the separate sets like they do for most Who releases. BBC doesn't understand how to price stuff at all (in the US anyway).

The "all content in HD" S5, S6 and S7 Blu-ray sets, as well as the upcoming S8 Blu-ray set, have a list price of $90 each, but there's no way BBC Video can charge that much for the older seasons, which are upscaled from PAL SD source material.

My guess is the S1-S4 Blu-rays will have a list price of $60 each (which means you could get them for $30 or less during the B&N British TV 50% off sale).

I've thought of this too. The DVD sets of S1-4 still have an outrageous MSRP of $79.99. Wondering how low they can go on the BDs considering.

The fact of the matter is that despite the high MSRP the sets still sell. There is no reasons why they should lower them.

That's a great point that hadn't occurred to me. Blu-rays are usually not cheaper than their DVD counterparts, but could BBC Video be so bold and keep the S1-S4 DVDs at $80 and charge the same for the Blu-rays (or charge $90, the same as the S5-S8 Blu-rays)? Or maybe the S1-S4 DVDs will finally drop in price?

They sell at the higher price because it was always a niche show with hardcore fans who will pay it. However with the show gaining more and more of a US audience one could argue they could sell more copies with a lower price. It's a balancing act.

Either way though, despite the $90 MSRP they never cost anywhere near that on release in my experience. Pretty sure I have paid $50ish for every set on release day.

Yeah those MSRPs are always super high. The pre-order for series 8 is currently 90 bucks, so hopefully it comes down.

It sounds like from the article posted on the front page that day of the doctor and night of the doctor will not be included in that particular set, so anyone who was holding out buying those until the complete series 8 came out will probably have to buy those individual releases after all.
