Memphis Blu-ray PRE-ORDER

NEWS/TRAILER
http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=15346

Quote:
Kino Lorber will release on Blu-ray Tim Sutton's new film Memphis (2013). Nominated for Independent Camera Award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Memphis will be available for purchase on January 13, 2015.

Synopsis: A strange singer with god given talent drifts through the mythic city of Memphis under its canopy of ancient oak trees, shattered windows, and burning spirituality. Surrounded by lovers, legends, hustlers, preachers, and a wolfpack of kids, the unstable performer avoids the recording studio and is driven to spend time in his own form of self-discovery. Shown in fragments, his journey drags him from love and happiness right to the edge of another dimension.

Featuring an explosive performance and score from the singular recording artist-cum-wizard, Willis Earl Beal, Memphis is a film steeped in folklore, music, surrealism, and the abstract search for glory.

Special Features:

Booklet Essays by Robert Gordon
Extra Scene-"Willis Meets the Prophet"
On-set Interview with Willis Earl Beal
Podcast Interview with Director Tim Sutton
Teenie and Charles Hodges of the Hi Rhythm Section in session

Jacques Rivette's Le Ponte du Nord is coming to BD on February 17.

Quote:
Le Pont du Nord (1981) is an entrancing puzzle film with the city of Paris as a continually shifting game board. It is one of director Jacques Rivette's most mysterious and haunting works, a dark companion piece to Celine and Julie Go Boating (1974).
Marie (Bulle Ogier, L'amour Fou, Maitresse) has just been released from prison, and encounters the paranoid loner Baptiste (Pascale Ogier, Full Moon in Paris). They follow Marie's ex-lover Julien (Pierre Clementi) and his talismanic briefcase as Paris begins to open up to them as a series of enigmatic clues. The city is a labyrinth of possibilities but no certainties, a place of fantastical fables (here be dragons) and the brute realities of the street. Shot on luminous 16mm at exclusively outdoor locations by the great cinematographers William Lubtchansky (Shoah, Every Man for Himself, Regular Lovers) and Caroline Champetier (Holy Motors), Le Pont du Nord is surreal, gorgeous and heartbreaking, and is surely one of Rivette's greatest works.

Special Features: Booklet with Original Press Notes and essay by Dennis Lim, Mapping LE PONT DU NORD, an image-essay by Roland-Francois Lack | COMPOSITES, a video-essay by Gina Telaroli
The Retrieval (2013) is coming to BD on February 3.

Quote:
1864: as war ravages the nation, on the outskirts of the civil War, it is business as usual for slave-owners and traders. The Retrieval follows Will (Ashton Sanders), a fatherless thirteen-year-old boy who survives by working with a white bounty hunter gang. They send him to earn the trust of runaway slaves in order to lure them back to the south.
On a dangerous mission into the free north to find Nate (Tishuan Scott), a fugitive freedman, things go wrong and Will and Nate find themselves on the run. As the bond between them unexpectedly grows, Will becomes consumed by conflicting emotions as he faces a gut-wrenching final decision. Thrilling, but grounded in historical research, The Retrieval serves as an insight into the grey period between slavery and freedom and the horrific moral dilemma that comes with being forced to betray your fellow man.

Special Features: Audio Commentary by Director Chris Eska | Deleted Scene | Stunt Rehearsals | Trailer

Wow - didn't see that one coming. And with some strong enough extras to offer some serious competition to the MoC edition.

One day she supplies a new client with a fatal dose, only to find out he's perfectly healthy but tired of life. Irene is determined not to be responsible for his suicide. DVD PRESS RELEASE

Kino Lorber Releases Daniel Auteuil's celebrated adaptations of Marius & Fanny, based on the works by Marcel Pagnol

Both acclaimed films to become available together on DVD in Special 2-Disc Set on December 9th

Marius & Fanny DVD

Quote:
Kino Lorber is proud to announce the release of Daniel Auteuil's celebrated adaptations of Marcel Pagnol's timeless stories Marius & Fanny, in a special 2-disc DVD set that presents both of these sweeping, beautiful melodramas together, giving viewers the chance to own these acclaimed films in one set.

The DVD is set to street on December 9th, with a SRP of $34.95, including bonus features such as featurettes, stills gallery, and trailers.

Marius and Fanny were released theatrically by Kino Lorber earlier in 2014, opening in New York before moving on to other national markets. Film Journal International called the films "Utterly delightful".

In addition to writing and directing, award-winning actor Daniel Auteuil (Queen Margot) appears in both films in the role of César, the owner of a small cafe in the port city of Marseilles. Victoire Bélézy (who won the Rendez-Vous First Prize for a Female Actress at the 2013 Cabourg Romantic Film Festival for her performance in Fanny) stars as Fanny, a beautiful fishmonger who is in love with César's son Marius, played by Raphaël Personnaz (winner of the Lumiere Award for Most Promising Young Actor for his performance in Marius). Together the two of them face challenges that test their feelings for one another and require them to make important decisions that will affect the rest of their lives. Daniel Auteuil previously adapted Pagnol's The Well-Digger's Daughter for the screen in 2011.

SYNOPSIS:
Marius and Fanny are the first two parts of Marcel Pagnol's classic trilogy following the loves and losses of a Marseilles port community. Actor and director Daniel Auteuil (The Well-Digger's Daughter) has faithfully and beautifully recreated the grand emotions of these beloved texts.

Marius (Raphaël Personnaz) is the strapping young son of César (Auteuil), a blustery café owner. Marius has known and adored the pretty fishmonger Fanny (Victoire Bélézy) since they were children, but he is torn between his love for her and his love for the sea. Fanny, meanwhile, is being courted by the kindly old shop-owner (Jean-Pierre Darrousin), who offers wealth and stability. Marius and Fanny are torn between their freedom and responsibility, and every decision they make leads to greater heartbreak. With its brilliant and beautiful performances, Marius and Fanny are soaring, satisfying melodramas that would make Pagnol proud.

Marius: 1.85:1. 16x9 / 93 minutes / French with Optional English subtitles / Color
Fanny: 1.85:1. 16x9 / 102 minutes / French with Optional English subtitles / Color

Bonus Features:
Featurettes
Stills Gallery
Trailers
5.1 Surround Sound
