Just finished going through all 30 pages of this thread. More than a few people complained about the DC not having the alicorn shots.

It's not owned by Universal. The movie was a Universal/Fox co-production with the latter handling most overseas territories.

how is 'producing' be classified as 'distribution'? I was under the impression that Universal (only) pretty much picked up the bill and provided the money for the movie to be filmed.

Hey guys,

Not sure if this has been talked about, but the DC looks to be playing in theaters. Going to check it out today.

Doesn't look to the Ridley Scott film, but it is called Legend and does open today.

Scratch that guys. Moviefone Web site listed the wrong movie. When I got to the theater it was for some foreign movie. Sorry about that.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I can't stand the Directors Cut version.

I guess it's because I grew up in the 80's with the Tangerine Dream theatrical cut.

This is probably why both cuts were released in the U.S. on BD. There are plenty of people that like one cut and hate the other. Then there's folks like me that enjoy both cuts for different reasons.

Same here. Both versions have the pros and cons. If I honestly had to choose which one I prefer personally, I gotta go with the theatrical cuz it's what I grew up on (probably saw the director's cut on dvd when I was 16 or so). But if I were to introduce this film to someone who's never seen it before, then Director's Cut, all the way.

Actually, TBH I have a fan edit that's kind of a "best of both worlds" of both versions which is my "go-to" version now. It's still the Tangerine Dream score, but more Director's Cut footage (can't remember if they re-use certain score cues, use unused score cues that are on the soundtracks but not in the film, or if they also even used Tangerine Dream music from around that time that was never made for the film's score. Probably a little bit of all) . It's about 100-105 minutes long. So long enough than theatrical to flesh out the story and characters, but still not as full as the Director's Cut (which we all know is still not "the full story". I believe a full unedited version would clock in at at least 2 hours).

So for those of you who prefer the Director's Cut but hate that certain important things are missing (like Gump re-attaching the Alicorn), I strongly suggest looking it up. I believe it's called "Legend: The extended Tangerine Dream cut", or something similar.

There's even an extended director's cut that re-inserts the deleted scenes, storyboard pictures and all, but even if I checked it out, I didn't keep it. Sure it's great that they still have the audio of the "fairy dance" scene, but hearing it with still shots of storyboards just takes me outta the fantasy and makes me start watching it as an editor instead.

Aside from its curious omission of the return of the alicorn, the Director's Cut is simply preferable to me in every way. And I say that as someone who grew up with the US Theatrical Cut. Nostalgia isn't a powerful influence on me, though...I hate a lot of things I loved growing up. haha

I have only seen the theatrical cut but the characters felt really empty so I would be interested in the director's cut. I like tangerine dream but I could live without the sometimes goofy score, its got nothing on theif.
Past a certain point there's a futility in responsibility.

Deckard757, just reading over the thread here and saw your top 5 movies in your signature, and felt compelled to comment. Anybody that rates "For A Few Dollars More" above the other two in the trilogy has revealed that they are a man or woman of discriminating and refined taste!!

...and should be heard! That will be all, continue the discussion please.
