A late review of a disc that appeared first in 2011, but I guess that it's only now that it has gained wider distribution:
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Riki-O.../25626/#Review

I am peeved by the less than 5-star review for the movie , but I guess that's entirely a matter of opinion and Brian is entitled to his. Me I could not stop laughing / marveling through most of it, it is so frakking bat-guana-insane. I had pre-ordered it and was gutted to hear about the video being an upscale, but by then it was too late, and anyway it's the only version of the film out on blu. Really hoping that some cult movie label will be able to get hold of actual film elements and be able to make a brand new HD master. I would gladly double dip for this classic of WTFery.

I love it. I still watch my DVD copy a few times a year.

Weird seeing a review of this now. I sold off my DVD when this was announced for BD, but after the terrible reviews started coming in I held off. Should probably just suck it up and buy it already. My collection is conspicuously missing Cat III titles.

It's at least upscaled from a better master than what MB used for their non-anamorphic DVD. It's a definite upgrade even if it's not HD.

Weird to finally see a review of this disc now, but filmic insanity of this level must be supported, on any format. To paraphrase a man who loved ninjas, "I love Riki-Oh, with all of my body".

That's good to hear. It's not a great film, but I'd like to own it.

Personally, I'll wait for another release. The US blu-ray of DONNIE DARKO is a shade above an unconvert due to the zealous DNR applied, but the (unfortunately barebones) german release is a proper HD upgrade, with little to no DNR.

Hopefully someone in Europe might come across a decent print and put out an honest-to-God HD release.
