Doesn't just happen on my avr. I can hear on the tv also. Is there a way I can find the firmware up date for the avr-891? I can't find anything on their website.

It's beginning to sound like maybe your PS3 is bad. How long have you had the PS3? If it hasn't been too long then I would suggest having someone look at it because now It sounds like your PS3 is badly damaged and might need to be repaired. It sounds like the audio ports might need to be replaced with new ones. I would call Sony about your problem and explain it to them and see what they have to say on it.

It could've the disc itself.
I upgraded my Denon AVR by plugging it into the net via Ethernet. It upgraded itself. Took about 40 minutes. Just don't cut the power or it will brick. It saves your settings and then puts it back when completed.Ta Dono

It may very well be that because you are using different speakers that this could be causing the issues. I would unhook your speakers and see about hooking them up to a friends house and see If they are still making the same popping sound If they are then you can rule out that the PS3 is bad and that the discs are bad.

Grounding usually produces humming issues. Not poping.
