Even with native 5.1 or 7.1 mixes?

Yeah, just not a fan of it. It's distracting and gimmicky to me, and the volume levels needed to really feel "immersed" in it are hard to achieve in a condo. I use a nice 2.1 setup.

I can't imagine something like Jurassic Park in 2.1 instead of 5.1 or TRON: Legacy in 2.1 instead of 7.1.

Well, you probably can't imagine it because you like surround sound. I don't.

So did I, and I prefer the 2.1 setup. You're obviously having a hard time respecting this as a personal choice though.

No, I just don't understand going against director's intent. It would be like wanting to watch a scope film in 1.78:1 or watching a black and white film in color.

I don't apply the same significance to audio, I'm not an audiophile at all. Also I am missing no content, just how that content is distributed. Nothing is the equivalent of "cropped" when you downmix to 2.1. I still hear Arnold shooting his shotgun in T2, I just don't hear a cheesy switch in direction to behind me when he does it.

The vast, vast majority don't even have 2.1 setups, so I don't really feel that odd here. Audiophiles usually act like I'm a psycho though. It's all subjective.

I see where you're coming from. I could honestly never give up my 7.1 system though. I make sure and listen to it appropriately though. If a film is mono then it gets played in mono, stereo in stereo, etc.

You're a blu-ray enthusiasts and collector, and you don't like surround sound? You're the first! You must don't go to the theater at all either because, they all have surround sound.

If you think the majority of movie enthusiasts have a surround sound system I've got a bridge to sell you. Vast majority don't care. I actively dislike it, it sounds gimmicky and distracting to me.

I am glad audiophiles like yourself have the option.
