No problem. Crichton has been my favorite author for over 15 years so I can tell you anything about any one of his books. Eaters of the Dead is not his best novel, but it's near the top. Andromeda Strain (needs to hit BD) still takes the cake IMHO.

A fair amount. The protagonist of the book is an elderly statesman sort, who just about gets by with a sword. Also, he doesn't learn the Norse language by watching people move their lips. There is a lot more historical and cultural detail in the book which gets skimmed over in the interests of story-telling. The movie is fine for what it is, but read the book as well.
