To those who have the seen the movie, what are some movies you'd say it's akin to?

I'm really interested in it, but with so many good movies coming out in September & October, I'm trying to limit my purchases this upcoming week.

+1 I have it preordered but am on the fence too. It LOOKS good, with a solid cast, is it something kinda like Zodiac but with more of the killer's POV?

I haven't seen it but have it queued up on Netflix. If you've seen Boardwalk Empire you know Michael Shannon is going to be very, very good in this role. I remember the original HBO interviews with the Iceman and this is right in Shannon's wheelhouse. Appearance of a nice normal family guy at home who turns into a monster when he leaves the house to go to "work." If the next rest of the year wasn't going to be so darn expensive, I'd buy it.

Monster/Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.

It completely (and mericfully IMO) circumvents the typical police/detective procedural element to advance the plot and really just focuses in on Kuklinski, his family and Pronge. I really appreciated how the writing cared about the family and developed them more beyond mindless plot pawns or being critical of how oblivious they were to them. All the acting is good across the board and it's thoroughly engrossing. I really enjoyed it and will be watching it again on Tuesday.

Best Buy is asking $24.99 for an exclusive combo pack version. What are the chances of getting them to PM amazon at $14.49 tomorrow? I ask because BB's release is an "exclusive" and they're not carrying the standard BD in store.

Got it Saturday at BJs for only $10, they also had Millennium Entertainment's other recent release, Killing Season, for $10 as well.

I live in Buffalo, NY and the two different BJs that I go to have varying selections of DVDs/Blus, so your BJs might not have it, but it's worth a try.

Really good adaptation of his life, in my opinion. I got hooked after watching the HBO interview sessions with him in prison.

I was disappointed. The movie lacked focus.

Taking nothing away from Shannon, but I thought the directing was abysmal.

If like me you have read The Ice Man: Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer by
Philip Carlo and have seen "The Iceman Tapes" from HBO you will probably find it disappointing.

Shannon's acting is superb and he really plays the character well. I couldn't think of anyone better to have played him. Unfortunately the editing and the storytelling is very abrupt and a bit too edgy. It doesn't flow and they get so much wrong. Its not a Goodfellas and don't expect a mob flick.

Its an Ok movie that had so much more potential. I think it's worth watching (rental or download) as you don't see movies like this very often.

The potential of this story was massive, easily a 10/10 if done properly. My advice is to watch this movie with no high expectations.

One thing I would like to know is whatever happened to Mickey Rourke's confirmation to star as ‘The Ice Man’?

I agree about the direction, But Shannon was amazing as always. I really wished it would have been longer and would have covered A LOT more of the killings to really show how brutal this guy was and how he could just turn it off once he got home to his family. For a guy who had murdered over 100 people, it really doesn't cover more than just a few. Especially some of the more gruesome ones. I wasn't expecting a bloodbath, but It felt very rushed to me. I'd say rent it first..
