Default Recommend a 55" - 70" TV

Parents are looking to buy a new TV for their living room. Area is very bright during the day time, view distance is anywhere from 8 ft to 30 ft. No 3D, but Smart TV is a plus. They currently have an old CRT TV from the stone age and I want something that will blow off their socks. I'm more of a projector guy, so I haven't really kept up with large TV's. They probably want something less than $3000 USD.

Thanks to any advice you can share.

I need help, too. I'm having a hard time cutting through it all. Can someone express some thoughts and recommendations for the following criteria:

1. Basement home theater
2. 60" display
3. Open to LCD or Plasma
4. Price range $1,500
5. 3D not necessary
6. Priority for viewing experience: movies on blu-ray. Secondary, sports events.

I'll probably get it at Best Buy. Help!

Race, since you are going basement, have you considered a projector?

The way the set-up is, it needs to hang above a fireplace. and no real place to project.

From online research, it looks like last years Pansonic ST50 would be a good one for me, and the 2013 model (the ST60) is about to come out. Maybe that's one I ought to wait on.

I recently bought the Samsung PS64E8000 (PN in some regions)and I would certainly recommend that set.
Film=Priority,Packaging=Not really bothered.

I spent a lot of money on booze, bird's and fast cars.
The rest I just squandered...............George Best.

Stridulent's parents should defiantly buy Samsung's new 2013 PN60F8500 for $3k.

Race Bannon, your best display is Panasonic's new 2013 TC-P60ST60.

Want to know the best place to buy them

Sadly, OLED prices are looking pretty high from what I have seen.

Thanks for the recommendation. This looks like a great TV, however, I'm not sure if a plasma is the best choice since there is lack of any light control in the room.

Stridulent, Samsung's F8500 is as bright as most LED displays, which is why I suggested it. We calibrated more than 10 F85000 so far and in the Cal Day mode we set the panels up at 66fL.

It is not a wise decision to take OLED TV's. The price is very high, and it seems not durable .
