I have the original version bought on release date. Thin normal blu-ray case, with slip-cover. Anyone ever know if Criterion ever offered a replacement program to better fit ones Criterion collection? You know a program where they could send you a bigger case with fitted artwork for the case if you could prove you own the film?
Honestly, it doesn't irritate me or anything like that I'm just curious if the option is out there?

Criterion doesn't manufacture and distribute this title. Paramount did and now Warner Bros. will as part of their licensing agreement with Paramount.
It's one of those things where if Criterion had any say in it we wouldn't be talking about replacement packaging in the first place because it would have been done correctly from the beginning.

Hasn't Criterion offered up re-placement cases in the past for movies that came in weird cases or some sh!t? Honestly, I would really love to have "Night of the Hunter" but it comes in a shitty card board case that would look incredibly out of place on the shelf next to the rest of my Criterion collection.. And it's not a digibook, but some cardboard garbage.

However with Brazil and Samurai Trilogy they fit both discs and the booklet inside of their standard sized plastic case. So I guess going forward 2 disc sets will come in a "normal" case, but the drawback with this new design is that discs are overlapping each other on the same side of the case (i.e. to access disc 2, you need to remove disc 1). The "crappy" cardboard cases actually aren't that bad. They come in a relatively sturdy slipbox, then inside is basically a "digipack" that folds out so it's easy to access both discs. With any digibook/digipack/or slipcover - the edges will probably get worn out with time (unless it's a "collection" freak that never actually touches the case or opens it up to get the discs inside |

Also explains why it was in more retailers than just Best Buy. Retailers like Wal-Mart, Target, ect. that usually do not have new Criterion releases.
