But lets face it, every game will be tailored to the xbox again just like last gen and the PS4 will suffer because of it.

Battlefield 3 is a PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 game. I don't see how the PC version suffered due to the Xbox 360 version. Nor do I see how the Xbox One version will have a direct impact on Battlefield 4 on PC or PS4. Frostbite is a scalable engine.

Might be slightly different this gen due to both consoles using very similar hardware. This will make it easier for developers to hopefully use the hardware to its full pontential.
BF will always be developed for PC in mind but as this gen is AMD hardware, porting it to consoles will not be too difficult and with little loss in detail and smoothness. Fingers crossed

I'd seriously be disappointed if devs intentionally toned down the games quality to the lowest denominator with such easy to work hardware on the next gen PS4. The quality should clearly be a cut above just based on that fact alone. They don't actually have much of a benefit by NOT exploiting the hardware as much as possible when they're not even having to try.

I'm going to hold off buying this till PS4, but I think PS3 players are still in for a treat

Unlike the old PS3 and xBox360. The architecture of the new systems is very similar. The PS3 used the IBM Cell Processor and the xBox360 used a 3 core IBM PowerPC processor. They were extremely different. Now they use the same processor, similar graphics but the xBox is not clocked as high as the PS4 and has other disadvantages. So I think the difference will be costs and you will get what you pay for. But I think that game wise, maybe they will both have 64 player BF4 but smoother on the PS4. Maybe?

Because most devs are lazy. If xbox is again the primary platform expect lower quality graphics then if ps4 or pc was (assuming that nothing changes and the info we have is correct). Battlefield 3 itself had many things that reeked of a console port and did not take advantage of pc hadware anywhere near as well as many seem to think it does. It got away with it with many pc gamers though I fell because it had clear areas where it was inescapably better then the console versions (and it was a nice change to have pc hardware used in some way that consoles simply couldn't keep up with), but my goodness even at a glance the water was so clearly sub par and some of the textures where... not very good to say the least.

To this day I don't know how anyone could claim that Battlefield 3 looks as good or better then Crysis 2 on pc.

You are seriously missing the point of Battlefield if this is where your agreement is.

The Battlefield series is all about the online experience.

The Crysis series is all about graphics.

A solo experience maxed out graphics has never been what battlefield is about. DICE will leave MAX out setting for a much smoother online experience... or in other words, look luck having the crysis engine run a map the size of Battlefield, with a 64 players and no lag.

As for developing, all next-gen console are based on pc parts due to the developers request... A good bet there is that PC will be lead platform this gen, then games will be port over to One and PS4 and optimized for each console as Travis stated.

I think at first there will be little difference between ONE and PS4 but in the future and as developers get more out of the system I think that difference will be noticable.

This is a topic specifically about DICE and Battlefield. Battlefield 3 was designed to be a multiplayer game with large maps. They were not able to meet that goal because of the Xbox 360? Or are we specifically talking about graphics? In which case, as RaijinUT pointed out, not everyone could have afforded a PC that ran Battlefield 3 with 64 players running around if it looked like the Battlefield 4 demo. But now it's the future, so that hardware is cheaper. And, the player models in the Battlefield 4 demo clearly have a higher polygonal count than those in Battlefield 3 in spite of the fact that Battlefield 4 is still going to be released on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

If the Playstation 4 has a faster processor than the Xbox One, it'll have a higher frame rate. That's a better looking game. If it has a faster GPU, it'll have better lighting and shadows. Or run at a higher native resolution. Or have a higher or more resource intensive form of anti-aliasing. Etc. Which also makes for a better looking game.
