So I fell asleep after I finished watching this movie, but OH MAN, soooo bad. Wow. And to think I was going to blind buy this. I usually love predictable twists but this one wasn't satisfying enough. I think Elizabeth Olsen is a great actress but this film dragged her down.

My wife was actually falling asleep during the movie, but I refused to since I paid to rent it lol. She is a great actress and I do agree with you, the film did drag her down.

But if not tonight, we'll finally give it a spin tomorrow for sure. So, we'll finally get the verdict on whether this is an ok movie or a crappy movie. Because my opinion is the one that is definitely right and if I enjoy it, then the film had to be good. |

This movie may be impressive technically - it appears to be one unbroken take - but it really tested my patience. Although it did at times remind me of a survival horror game like Fatal Frame, it was like watching somebody play Fatal Frame who does nothing but wander around endlessly in circles.

Watched Silent House today with Elizabeth Olsen, since it was only 1h 20m and I wanted something short to watch. My expectations were non existent since the reviews I read weren't too good, but this movie blew me away. I was engaged throughout, since it kept me in suspense and even made me jump a handful of times.
The twist was one I didn't see coming, and without spoiling too much, I was glad to see it wasn't a typical scary "haunted house/home invader" scenario. It's hard to explain the things I liked without giving stuff away, but it had great cinematography, and I enjoyed the minimalist approach to creating suspense. We don't need blood and gore, when footsteps and fumbling with a key can do the trick. Olsen's fear and terror was very believable, and even non audible facial expressions conveyed good emotion. Elizabeth Olsen is amazing. In an industry where most actresses are all about being glamorous and smiling real pretty, Olsen actually plays gritty parts without an eye on the box office. After seeing every movie she's done thus far, and being wowed by all but one of them, she's definitely someone I'll check out in whatever she's in going forward. |
