I've only used xlr with the 8801. So I can't compare it to rca on the 8801. I've used rca before on other receivers/preamps I've had. I like xlr better. Better connection.

Is xt32 worth 2k plus over the av7701?

I have the av8003. Is the av8801 worth the upgrade?

The 8801 can be had for just under $1k more than the 7701. I'd say it's definitely worth it. Its the true replacement to your av8003. Had xt32, copper chassis, 32 bit dacs, toroidal power supply. It's an awesome unit. I love it.
