Read Nightwing, Red Hood and Catwoman. Fairly bleh week for Bat-books, though Lobdell's sendoff for his Red Hood run had some nice sentimentality. But overall, this "Requiem" stamp on the covers just reeks of a cheap promo. Everything Damian related feels fairly tacked on. I'd be fine if Tomasi was the one to exclusively deal with the aftermath, as his issue has been the only one that truly felt connected and properly reflective. Shoe-horning it into the other books has been annoying.
On the other end, Morrison's Action run ended this week, and it couldn't have been a more glorious swan-song. If he never writes another story featuring the Man of Steel, I can still safely say that he has contributed more to the character than anyone else has is decades. Take his Action run as a beginning, his JLA work (and Final Crisis) as the middle, and All-Star Superman as the end, you have one of, if not THE definitive representation of the character. His last few issues of Batman Inc will likely provide the same book-end effect. Speaking of Morrison, I just placed an order for Doom Patrol vol 1 and New X-Men: E is For Extinction. Also grabbed "Day of Vengeance" to fill out my 'Countdown to Infinite Crisis' section.

Picked this up on Saturday evening after work
“We're so self-important. So arrogant. Everybody's going to save something now. And the supreme arrogance? Save the planet! Are these people kidding? We don't even know how to take care of ourselves; we haven't learned how to care for one another. . . . And, by the way, there's nothing wrong with the planet. The planet is fine. The people are f#@%ed!"- George Carlin

Went to my first ever ComiCon over the weekend. Wasn't really looking for anything specific so just picked up whatever looked interesting to read. Got:
Green Lantern (1992) Annual #1 The Punisher (1987-1995) #10 & Annual #5 Punisher (1995-1997) #1 The Punisher Holiday Special #1 The Punisher Presents: Barracuda #1 The Punisher: War Journal #5 The Punisher: War Zone #11 & 13 Yeah, yeah, I know. Lots of Punishers this week. But, hey, what can I say?
"Now the whole world's gonna know that you died scratching my balls!"
~James Bond (Casino Royale)~ "Oh, I'm not so bad...once you get to know me..." ~Agent Smith (The Matrix Revolutions)~ "Ah, yes...I was wondering what would break first. Your spirit, or your body?" ~Bane (The Dark Knight Rises)~ |

Green Lantern V2: The Revenge of Black Hand had been sitting on my nightstand for months, probably since the book was first released. Finally read it this week and loved it!
Looked up when V3 was coming out and release dates just happened to come out for it plus another version that collects the tie-ins to the Rise of the Third Army storyline. But V3 and the Tie-in collection duplicated Green Lantern issues while V3 included three more issues from the solo title. When I learned those extra issues basically covered Geoff Johns' final GL books, I decided I'd want those too. So I went for both and pre-ordered Green Lantern V3: Rise of the Third Army and Green Lantern: Rise of the Third Army. Looking forward to reading them when they come out in October, this time reading them right away! |

But Batman was the only title I sampled from Day One of the N52. I'd sampled some of Tony Daniels' writing previously and didn't find it particularly good, so I passed on Detective Comics at the time because he was the writer. Meanwhile I've since become a HUUUGE Scott Snyder fan, going so far as to pick up his Severed mini-series and seeking out trade paperbacks of Gates of Gotham and his first Batman work (which coincidentally was when he wrote for Detective Comics) The Black Mirror. Found both incredibly entertaining and was surprised how much he's planted seeds that far back that have been picked up and continued in his current Batman work. If you haven't read at least Gates of Gotham, I highly recommend that you do! UPDATE: As fate would have it, I just happened to come across this link of Scott Snyder's Top 10 books! I'll probably sample American Vampire next. http://goodcomics.comicbookresources...ies-ever-told/ Last edited by Gone2HiDef; 04-14-2013 at 03:28 PM. Reason: Added link |
