How long will an OLED panel lasts until it reduces to half its brightness?. I have read on Wiki that one of the cons to OLED is its short life span (10,000 hours based on 8 hours a day of use which would translate to about 5 years). Is this true or have they increased its life span??
My mancave:

dude....I was asking a question based on statistics of how long a OLED screen would last. Never said I watch 8 hours of TV.

There are many hoiuseholds that ahve the TV on for more, if you WFH or have moms\dads that stay at home. sometimes people jsut like to hav eit on in the background.....Usually its an "average" of time.....* hours seems like a lott but when you break it down, its not really that much wne you figure all fo the programming available....(TV, Movies, streaming, etc etc)......

From what I read its 70% at 10K hours for OLED form teh below link:

Service life

The mean service life of an incandescent lamp is around 1000 hours. After that, the filament burns out and the lamp must be replaced. With OLEDs on the other hand, a gradual drop in the luminous flux occurs. That is, the OLED does not burn out in the usual sense, but rather loses luminous flux and lighting power over the course of its service life. Typically the service life is defined as the period during which the light output falls to 70% of the original output (L70). Some manufacturers also specify the value for the drop in light output to 50% (L50).

Typical lifetimes of current OLEDs are around 10,000 hours (L70) at a brightness and luminance of 2000 candelas per square meter.
So for the service life of the TV you would need to know what the measurement of "life" is measured on. Much like Plasma a TV can be calibrated thorugh its life, I would expect the same for OLED, thus making that L70\L50 less "meaningful" in the "big picture" of things. The life could possibly be double that or 20K + hours which would mean ~10 years averaging 8 hours a day. Many people these days (especially those who visit forums like this) will replace the TV before its "official" EOL time.....

Thank you Majoran. Clears up what I have been hearing.
