I might be a little out of the loop, but I thought DTS didn't exist theatrically anymore (at least not under that name as they were purchased by DataSat if I recall correctly.)

From my understanding, yes. For theatrical releases, Datasat is the new name for DTS. But even then I think it's reserved for film prints and there is no version for DCP (digital cinema).

There's also that.

So now I'm even more curious, how is DTS:X coming to theaters if DTS doesn't exist theatrically anymore? Are certain theaters having DTS equipment installed?

According to DTS, they are "flexible". It would basically be a mater of just putting the processors in the theaters and using existing speaker layouts and using the processor to do its thing. If the processor is added - it should be able to use Auro and Atmos speaker configurations. At least that's what I've heard (but I haven't actually heard it yet - did you get that? I've heard about it - but I haven't heard DTS-X in action yet....however, I've heard DTS-X headphones in action).
