Just finished watching the iTunes version of season 1 and there are several upscaled shots throughout, so I wouldn't be surprised if part of the reason they're holding off a Blu-ray release it to allow more time to locate the missing film.
Blu-ray Wish list: 24 - Complete Series / The Abyss / True Lies / Die Hard 1-3 4K remasters / Star Trek movies 1-10 remastered w/ special editions

It was recently announced that Mill Creek would be releasing That 70's Show on blu ray in a complete series set. Now I believe the original company who produced the show was Warner Bros and then it aired on FOX.

So I guess this makes me wonder...if FOX doesn't see the value in releasing the X files on blu ray then how about a situation like this? Could they let another smaller company release it instead?

Is this a possibility?

Definitely possible, though I don't know how likely. Fox do license here and there, but not as much as MGM or Universal. Licensing to smaller companies is going to keep getting more and more common though, so maybe it could happen eventually if Fox decide not to release this themselves soon.

I'm sure a company like Shout Factory would love to release The X-Files on BD, the only question is could they afford to license it and does Fox want to license it.

I doubt that Fox will license the show to someone else. See The Simpsons for example. The "poor" sales for season 17 were 55000 DVDs and 11000 Blu-rays - see:
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Sim...examined/21379

I'm sure there are companies who would like to license The Simpsons and sell 50000 DVDs themselves. Honestly, if you can sell 50000 units of a product and you don't make a profit you are doing it wrong.

Fox wants to push digital and streaming. That's all. Maybe they give X-files a chance on Blu-ray but I doubt it.

I hate Fox. Does Murdoch still own it? Always was a tosser.

They have a very specific streaming revenue stream (har) with The Simpsons via Simpsons World that they don't have with X-Files. I would imagine the decision with X-Files will simply boil down to whether they think it will sell enough (at a price that makes them money) to bother with.

Read the Hackers thread.
Shout does nothing but a bad job for the last few years!
Or you can try the Mad Max Thread or even the Escape from NY Thread.

While I am certainly not a fan-boy of any studio, I thought their treatment of WKRP with a lot of the music back was good. I mean, there's not much one can do with a show shot on standard definition video and it's just not economically possible to get all the music licenses. Too many greedy hold outs.

$75 for the entire show is a great price, I just wonder if the blurays are around the corner though.
