I guess people now are just stupid and have no real sense of who they are and just want to complain. I grew up in a decade where films were made for blacks and they flocked to see them making them successful releases through major studios eg:, N****R Charley, The Legend of N****R Charlie, and Boss N****R (which also had a hit song by the same name).
Now of course rappers are allowed to use this forbidden word and no one complains. Yet if anyone else mentions it their terrible. Please, people, grow up. It didn't seem to bother anyone in the 70's, especially the blacks who flocked to these films - like, Coffey, Black Caesar, TNT Jackson, J.D.'s Revenge and a bunch of other where the "N" word is used countless of times by blacks, towards blacks. It was simply used in the same way one woman (of any color) would call another woman a "*****" in a cat fight.
Just because a black man is seen roller-skating in The Thing might be considered racist is just plain stupid. Roller skating rinks were popular in the 80's with all kinds of people. Was Roller Bogie with Linda Blair racist!? Or Olivia Newton John in Xanadu?! No.
Pla-ease!
Universal is just being stupid and over sensitive - that's why there are disclaimers.

Best typo of the month....

I was watching my Emmanuelle dvd and the promo gallery has a newspaper ad with an ad for Boss N*****r on the page. I have a pic, but I'll bet posting it would get me in trouble, despite it being a genuine article from the time.

That bit is still on the HD-DVD, but they don't mention anything else.

Just rewatched Thing 2011 and Thing '81 in that order and I gotta say its a great movie watching experience. I love the original and even though the new one is inferior it is still a fantastic way to do a prequel/reboot. Yes the original's opening helped facilitate that but I love that the prequel now exists. I appreciate the care and attention to detail that went into it. The set detail is nearly perfect. I liked seeing who the two-faced dead alien was and how all the characters match up. Aesthetically and tonally they match up nicely. It's hard to tell that there's a 30 year difference between them. I will always watch these two back to back from now on.

I'm a big fan of the original (hoping for a new transfer one of these days), but the 2011 prequel did nothing for me.

What's ridiculous, is, the 19 yr old tech that works with my wife at the Pharmacy just saw The Thing and Total Recall and never knew there was others!

"Which one did you watch?"

Ummm, the only one.

"No. There's not just one"

Oh, i saw the new ones that just came out recently.

I could quite happily go without watching the prequel ever again, but yeah, it does make for a cracking little lead-in to Carpenter's movie when watched back to back.
