Default "This feature requires Local Storage" Message

I put in the 2010 45th Anniversary BD disc of The Sound Of Music in my Sony S590, to just play the movie, and I got this message:

"This feature requires Local Storage. Your Blu-Ray player supports local storage but none is currently installed. 3 MB minimum required."

I pressed "Continue" to watch the movie.

So, today, I bought a 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive, a Micro Metal version ($9), and plugged it into the back of the Sony S590.

When I reloaded The Sound Of Music, then the above message did not show anymore, nor will it show again in the future.

What feature requires extra storage?

I found the same, minus the error message, happened to the first edition of STARGATE - the disc just wouldn't load on my Panasonic. Calling tech support Panasonic told me to get an SD card. It seems some discs are made in such a way they need additional memory to be loaded by the player. Some dump load info onto the added memory and this quickens the loading process the next time the disc in put into the player.
Note: if you go to your player's menu there is probably an option to format and clean the additional memory on the added device. Depending on how many disc dump info you might need to do this from time to time.
BTW - I've shut off the BD LIVE feature because this too is a source of slowing down the loading of a disc and it too can dump info on your added memory. Beside, I rarely even use the BD LIVE feature - most of them lack in good content anyway.

I suspect it's the BD Live feature on that disc.

Note: The "Salzburg Sight and Sound" Travelogue is incorrectly listed as having an SD Transfer in The Sound Of Music 45 Anniversary Edition Blu-ray Review liner notes.

This is an HD presentation!

Please note post #586 in this HTF Topic, plus a few subsequent posts: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/comm...337620/page-30

The incorrect SD designation for "Salzburg Sight and Sound (SD, 13:04)" is listed near the bottom of the following webpage, under the "Vintage Programs" heading: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-So.../13695/#Review

CHEERS!

Is anyone loathe to open their Sound of Music Collector's Edition? I like the sticker saying which of the 250,000 I own. Wish there was a way to enjoy the film and keep the sticker

I spent minutes watching Unboxing videos of it to help decide and it only driven me more toward indecision. Most have them removing the plastic wrap and the sticker was underneath, but one of them had the sticker removed with the plastic! Then there the ones not plastic wrapped when the video started and others where they don't show the front after they remove the plastic that even a freeze frame would not reveal if the sticker of the collection number they own is still there. It's such a conundrum its tearing me apart and if I remove the sticker on this one then it will lead me down a path I cannot follow as my Dark Knight Trilogy Blu-Ray box set also contains a sticker of its quantity and where would the madness end. Does mint condition no longer mean anything? Woe is me. Agony, beyond power of speech, when the one thing you want is the only thing of your reach.
